Light Land and Sea tours place an emphasis on outstanding photography, while providing you with the opportunity to experience genuine culture and people while visiting stunning landscapes.

Registration for our Northern Ireland 2015 tours in June ( and September (, with limited numbers is now open

To capture the perfect photograph you need to have the complete picture. Taking a memorable photograph is not just a matter of point and shoot, but a genuine understanding of and connection to a location. That’s what makes these Northern Ireland Photo Tours so unique.

These six day adventures place an emphasis on outstanding photography while providing participants with the opportunity to experience the culture, people, and landscape of Northern Ireland.

Here are just some of the highlights the Northern Ireland Photo Tours have to offer:

:: Personalized photographic guidance from +John Dunne and +Athena Carey in breath-taking locations with qualified local guides to enhance your experience through history and folklore.

:: The very best authentic local entertainment, quality cuisine, and a traditional, luxury four-star boutique hotel awarded 'AA Hotel of the Year' for Northern Ireland.

:: Visits to iconic landmarks like the UNESCO World Heritage Site Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, the fantastically foreboding Dark Hedges, as well as less familiar but equally captivating hidden gems.

Although creating beautiful photographs is the ultimate goal, the tours are about so much more. This is your chance to indulge your love of photography whilst at the same time sampling Northern Ireland at it’s very best.

All levels of photographer are catered for, with two tours of no more than 12 participants, the first in June 2015 (, followed by another for more experienced photographers in September 2015 (

I believe that your connection to a place profoundly affects your photography.  The deeper your understanding and attachment to a location is, the more impact your images will inherently have.  This is one of the reasons that photographers make breathtaking images of their own locales.
But when you are traveling on a tight schedule without local contacts and with little local knowledge, it's difficult to make these essential connections.  How can you get to know a place in the short span of a holiday?
+Light, Land and Sea a joint venture between my friend +John Dunne  and I, can help you to do exactly that.  We will be offering photographic tours of stunning locations, but unlike most photo workshops we intend to give you an authentic taste of each place.  While we travel to some of the most beautiful sites, well known icons and captivating, less known gems, we will be helping you with the technical and artistic aspects of capturing the best possible images.  At the same time, you will also receive the background in history, culture and folklore of these locations through qualified local guides.  Together we will share authentic food, taste local wines and whiskeys and enjoy live entertainment.  As you travel with us, you will be experiencing each location on multiple levels and that connection will shine through not just in the rich memories you will leave with, but also in your photographs.
On our first tour offered in June, 2015 we will travel from Dublin, up through beautiful Northern Ireland.  To find out more and to be notified when the tour becomes available, please visit to signup for updates.

“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going” ~ Beverly Sills

I am really excited to publishing this new image today as it was captured during my recent trip to the beautiful Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland, with the very talented +Athena Carey. We have both been teasing you with various behind the scene images of our trip over the last couple of months, alluding to something exciting. And today I get to talk a little more about that something. Yay! 

So, please say hello to Light, Land & Sea, a joint venture between Athena and I, and our aim is to offer Unique Photographic Adventures. Pop over to for more details and sign up to the newsletter, or continue reading…

What is this all about John? Photo tours, with a difference, that’s what! So what makes this so different? Quite simply because we are offering the best of both worlds – photography focused but so much more. You will have the opportunity to photograph some of the most beautiful locations, both well-known and special “hidden gems”, while simultaneously receiving insight into the heritage and history of these locations through expert local Guides. We believe that getting to know places in this way affects your reaction to them and results in photographs with more depth and intensity. In addition to all the great photographic opportunities we will have many cultural activities such as local entertainment, wine and whiskey tastings, cultural performances and the very best in authentic cuisine.

Our tours are aimed at everyone interested in photography, from the average ‘Point & Shooter’ who would like to learn to take better photos, to the experienced photographer looking for ways to refine his craft.

And guess where our first tour takes place? Yup, in my very own country of Ireland; along the stunning Causeway Coast, in June next year. You will photograph some of the most iconic locations such as the Giants Causeway, as well as some lesser known local gems, stay at the very best hotel, be transported in a luxury coach, be immersed in the history and folklore of the region by our expert Blue Badge Guide, enjoy dining at some of the finest restaurants, enjoy a private tour of Bushmills Whiskey Distillery, and so much more.

I am so excited about this new venture, and feel Athena and I are offering something truly unique. We cannot wait to share it with you. We will announce the details of the tour including opening it up for registration in the coming weeks. For now why not pop over to the Light, Land & Sea website and sign-up to the newsletter so you can be first to know.

PS You can also hear Athena talk about our venture during a recent Drink and Click Show hosted by Lotus Carroll and Juan Gonzalez.
