Polar Pure is being shut down by the DEA, because crackheads are using it to cook meth.

Polar Pure's main use is to purify water for camping and during emergencies, as well as to provide a source of iodine as a nutritional supplement. It can even be used to combat radiation sickness from nuclear fallout! I myself use it when I go camping, as it's lightweight, lasts a long time, and the taste isn't too bad.

So how is it fair that this product should be removed from the market, when it has so many legitimate uses? Why not also remove bleach from the market, since it can be used to cook meth as well? II feel that this is a case of the government overstepping its bounds.

CORRECTION: I said radiation sickness, when I should've said thyroid cancer.

I like the end of the article. It gives you all the concise facts:

WHAT IS POLAR PURE?
Polar Pure contains a small sprinkling of iodine crystals, which disinfects water tainted with bacteria.

WHY DO DRUG AGENTS CARE ABOUT IT?
Federal drug agents suspected methamphetamine-makers were using the iodine to make drugs, and strict regulations on the chemical were approved.

WHAT does it all mean for WALLACE?
Wallace said the new rules ordered him to pay a fee, get permits, and keep track of buyers. But his iodine distributor -- warned by the DEA -- won't sell to him.

That's the problem with my tinfoil hat persona. He's just so bored that he's not willing to research things. Now he's telling me that Jalopnik was in on it. You see what I have to deal with?

Rice University scientists are recommending that Galveston abandon the west end of the island.

They say that the coastline is eroding at 3-6 feet per year, and that the island has run out of sand to add to the shore. They also argue that the city spends more in services to that area than it gets back in property taxes. This doesn't sound like it would bode well for communities like Jamaica Beach, though, and Bay Area Council is in the process of starting up a Sea Scout reservation on that end.

I think I'll be reading up on Galveston history today, specifically history on the west end.
GALVESTON - Galveston officials should consider abandoning the west end of the island and consolidating the city behind the seawall to rejuvenate the economy and avoid being swamped by rising seas, Ri...

Sony Ericsson has filed a formal complaint about the fan site http://xperiablog.net/ over the use of the Xperia name in its domain. I ask you: how does this make sense? The blogger(s) posting on this site were real fans of SE's Xperia series, and I'm sure the readers and commenters felt the same way.

But Sony Ericsson is obviously more concerned over copyright than fandom. It's a shame, too, since SE could use all the fans it can get for its smartphones.

Xperia Blog's post on the issue: http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/10/19/sony-ericsson-forces-us-to-close-xperiablog-net/

I wonder who's idea this was, because I could see it as another reason for Sony to ditch Ericsson if it was theirs.

The London Riots are absolutely disturbing, because this kind of mass violence can happen anywhere. Destruction for the sake of destruction.

I like what the BBC calls it: "criminal opportunism".
• Clashes between rioters and police across London • Violence spreads to Liverpool and Birmingham • Fires in Clapham, Croydon and Peckham • Prime minister returning from holiday • Blackberry messenger...

Another reason why data caps are ridiculous:

Even with AT&T's highest cap available (4GB/mo), I can theoretically blow through my allotted bandwidth for the month in 1.5 hours, assuming I get the advertised 6 Mb/s the entire time.

I had a great experience here! I fell in love with one of their hatchbacks, and with the help of Eddie and Sultan I drove it off the lot soon after! Eddie seemed like an honest guy. Great communication throughout the buying process; I got a call after each step made. Hooked me up with a credit union for financing. Definitely check out this lot. It's legit.
