Polar Pure is being shut down by the DEA, because crackheads are using it to cook meth.

Polar Pure's main use is to purify water for camping and during emergencies, as well as to provide a source of iodine as a nutritional supplement. It can even be used to combat radiation sickness from nuclear fallout! I myself use it when I go camping, as it's lightweight, lasts a long time, and the taste isn't too bad.

So how is it fair that this product should be removed from the market, when it has so many legitimate uses? Why not also remove bleach from the market, since it can be used to cook meth as well? II feel that this is a case of the government overstepping its bounds.

CORRECTION: I said radiation sickness, when I should've said thyroid cancer.

Rice University scientists are recommending that Galveston abandon the west end of the island.

They say that the coastline is eroding at 3-6 feet per year, and that the island has run out of sand to add to the shore. They also argue that the city spends more in services to that area than it gets back in property taxes. This doesn't sound like it would bode well for communities like Jamaica Beach, though, and Bay Area Council is in the process of starting up a Sea Scout reservation on that end.

I think I'll be reading up on Galveston history today, specifically history on the west end.

Sony Ericsson has filed a formal complaint about the fan site http://xperiablog.net/ over the use of the Xperia name in its domain. I ask you: how does this make sense? The blogger(s) posting on this site were real fans of SE's Xperia series, and I'm sure the readers and commenters felt the same way.

But Sony Ericsson is obviously more concerned over copyright than fandom. It's a shame, too, since SE could use all the fans it can get for its smartphones.

Xperia Blog's post on the issue: http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/10/19/sony-ericsson-forces-us-to-close-xperiablog-net/

The London Riots are absolutely disturbing, because this kind of mass violence can happen anywhere. Destruction for the sake of destruction.

I like what the BBC calls it: "criminal opportunism".

Another reason why data caps are ridiculous:

Even with AT&T's highest cap available (4GB/mo), I can theoretically blow through my allotted bandwidth for the month in 1.5 hours, assuming I get the advertised 6 Mb/s the entire time.
