An object lesson in why I'm not a fan of bidding sites: They skew your perception of your true value, and that can undermine your client's confidence.

Great piece by +Laura Spencer. It's perplexing to me when freelancers complain about isolation or loneliness...it can be a very social enterprise if you put your mind (and effort) to it, and especially if you diversify into categories outside your niche.  #amwriting

Other freelancers are your competition. It’s a waste of time to connect with them online or face-to-face, right? If this is what you think you might be missing out.

It's an individual decision...but you need to consider the business aspects that go beyond liability protection.

Good point, Jake--it could be worth sacrificing if it gets you out of a bad place. You can always comfort yourself with the check you get for unused vacation time!

Even if you don't commit any of these sins, this is a fantastic reminder of why you absolutely must keep it that way. Put yourself in the client's shoes as often as you can, and your business will benefit from it. Thanks to +Samar Owais for the initial post! #toughlove

This is a must read for every freelancer out there. There's no denying that writer's have crazy issues - insecurity being the biggest one. But that's no excuse to let your clients see that. To them, you need to be the epitome of confidence - even if you're faking it. #freelancing

"Find a job you love, and you'll never work a day in your life"? Not really. Even so, in the spirit of Valentine's Day, here are 36 things I love about freelancing. What's your list?
