Day 1: Black Walnut Flitch A6933-A6945: This is one of the largest Black Walnut logs that we have ever had the pleasure of cutting! It was so large that we had to split it first on the chainsaw mill just to fit it onto our bandsaw rig. The slabs have great color, beautiful grain and very little sapwood, rare for a log of this size. It also shows very nice curl and crotch figure in spots. Some boards do show a few knots but most are solid. The outside cuts would be great for table tops and the pith boards would make excellent gunstocks. Do you like your furniture to have a story/ a history? Than today's log is for you! We have showed you pieces of this tree, our "New London Walnut" as we affectionately refer to it, a few times in the past. (This tree was the third largest English Walnut tree in the state of Pennsylvania.) Today's flitch is one of its branches. This branch averages 45" wide!!

Day 4: English Walnut A8595-A8599: Every slab shows heavy figure from top to bottom and gorgeous color!!! This log is dry and ready for your truly one of a kind project!! More info: http://www.hearnehardwoods.com/flitch/walnut.english/a8595-a8599.english.walnut/flitch.html or call 1.888.814.0007 / 1.610.932.7400

Day 2: Another Black Walnut- This one is a bit more "manageable" for the "at home woodworker"- this log averages 30 inches wide by 188 inches long.

Black Walnut A6787-A6800: A beautiful character grade log. Fantastic color and grain, lovely medium - heavy figure along both natural edges and the majority of the slabs show a great feather crotch! For more information: http://www.hearnehardwoods.com/flitch/walnut/a6787-a6800.walnut/flitch.html or call 1.888.814.0007 / 1.610.932.7400

I was pleasantly surprised by the great selection of instrument grade woods! Mahogany, walnut, rosewood, ebony, koa, zebrawood, bubinga, african blackwood, etc. etc. etc... Many figured varieties as well. They even had spruce for the tops. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. So much selection that its hard to just get in and get out!

Can drive you crazy. They suggest they have almost every wood and dimension you could want. But call and you find out most it doesn't exist or that "The Walnut person is not here today". Got pictures of stacks of wood so you can only see the top boards. Ordered pieces of holly and they arrived strapped with a plastic hose clamps. Label was slapped on the wood. No cover at all. Large gouges during shipping. Junk basically. Tossed it on the scrap pile. Not worth dealing with them. Only way I think you can get wood from them is to go there. Certainly can't do it over the internet.

Very good lumber selection, but their turning blank inventory is very lackluster.

Their wood selection is unbelievable. The prices are ever so slightly on the high side, but the atmosphere and the people make it worth the trip without question.
