Well I don't know where you live but if you are local it's DARN HOT!! Again!! ... Hotter than an average day in Hawaii! And with no air movement or lovely blue water! Maybe I am delirious or have mild heat stroke but let's share a daydream.... (koa (Acacia Koa) only grows in Hawaii)
Today's flitch is Koa B3931-B3939: beautiful color and light to medium figure. Great for single piece or bookmatched tops.

Today we have (American) Black Walnut B3105-B3113: Beautiful color and wonderful grain. Some slabs have a very nice feather crotch which travels almost 4' towards the center of the slab. A few slabs also have a small burl cluster towards the top end (quite rare). This log is a wonderful choice if you are searching for a table top.

See board details here: http://www.hearnehardwoods.com/flitch/walnut/b3105-b3113.walnut/flitch.html

Soon to be coming our way (in a couple of months) new European Walnut (Juglans regia) stock. Rick says it is beautiful (looks beautiful)!!

(Juglans regia - This material is often referred to "in the industry" as "French Walnut" - We generalize it as European Walnut because our logs sometimes come from France but they might also be from Italy, England etc. This time they are coming from Italy (Italian Walnut :) ))

Next, Black Walnut Flitch B3215-B3222: This is a rustic quality Black Walnut log. Every slab has medium - heavy twist, along with checking and knots. Some boards do show very nice swirly grain and / or a lovely feather crotch at the top end. All boards have good color! A "TLC log" for sure, but a pretty one!

This log has been priced to sell- http://www.hearnehardwoods.com/flitch/walnut/b3215-b3222.walnut/flitch.html

Summer notoriously slows down business a touch, however it gives us time to get some much needed cataloging done! A batch of new flitches have hit our website again (I will post a new one every day or two- stay tuned).

First up- English Wych Elm A7497-A7515: With a little TLC this English Wych Elm will make great slab tops! It has a truly unique and unpredictable grain, nice color, along with limited defects. All slabs are cupped, twisted and/or bowed but most of the slabs will finish out (flat) at 1.5 - 2" thick. Some edges may need to be removed to help with flattening the boards.

*This material is priced to sell! Discount for buying the whole flitch- Contact Ed King: 1.888.814.0007 / 1.610.932.7400 or ed@hearnehardwoods.com

See board details here: http://www.hearnehardwoods.com/flitch/english.wych.elm/a7497-a7515.english.wych.elm/flitch.html

Their wood selection is unbelievable. The prices are ever so slightly on the high side, but the atmosphere and the people make it worth the trip without question.

Very good lumber selection, but their turning blank inventory is very lackluster.

I was pleasantly surprised by the great selection of instrument grade woods! Mahogany, walnut, rosewood, ebony, koa, zebrawood, bubinga, african blackwood, etc. etc. etc... Many figured varieties as well. They even had spruce for the tops. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. So much selection that its hard to just get in and get out!

Can drive you crazy. They suggest they have almost every wood and dimension you could want. But call and you find out most it doesn't exist or that "The Walnut person is not here today". Got pictures of stacks of wood so you can only see the top boards. Ordered pieces of holly and they arrived strapped with a plastic hose clamps. Label was slapped on the wood. No cover at all. Large gouges during shipping. Junk basically. Tossed it on the scrap pile. Not worth dealing with them. Only way I think you can get wood from them is to go there. Certainly can't do it over the internet.
