City Landing did a beautiful job with the old Sel de la Terre space, really opening it up and brightening it. The sea foam green tile mosaics and light bricks seem appropriate so close to the aquarium, and the overall ambiance is pleasant. The seating was a bit cramped; I'm just five feet tall but could barely find a place for my feet under the table, which was almost impossibly close to the booth. As for the food, the presentation was spot on - lots of artsy, pretty dishes. The food tasted good but suffered some issues with seasoning. The scallops, for example, were perfectly seared but too salty. The broth for the ahi tuna, on the other hand, leaned towards bland. Overall, though, we were very satisfied with our meal. The cocktails were just satisfactory. The descriptions were interesting, but the execution was off. Not bad, just kind of devoid of flavor. My drink, for example, featured jalapeno, but it didn't even have the least bit of a kick. I felt a little bit underdressed in jeans, although proximity to the aquarium means that there are a lot of kids around, particularly during the day and in the early evening, so the loud infant a few tables away made me feel a little better about not dressing up. The restaurant does provide an extensive kids' menu, and the servers are very friendly to kids, from what I could see, so it could be a nice way to expose the little ones to some fine dining after a day checking out the fish across the way.
