Your rabbit's diet
Food plays a really important part in your rabbit’s health and wellbeing. The wrong diet can cause all sorts of health problems, such as dental issues and obesity.

The best diet for your bunnies is one that is as close as possible to a wild rabbit’s diet; 90% high quality feeding hay or grass and a small amount of pellet-style rabbit food and fresh vegetables.

Please help keep your rabbit warm, happy and safe from danger during this very cold spell…

Rabbit winter guide:

How to keep your rabbits warm and healthy through this very cold spell

Keeping rabbit hutches warm in winter is very important, hutches should be positioned so that wind, rain, snow or sleet can’t blow in.

If the weather’s particularly bad, move the hutch into an unused garage or shed if it’s possible. If your rabbit needs to stay outside, help keep them snug as a bug in their hutch by covering the front with an old blanket or sacking and adding extra bedding. Don’t forget you need to change their bedding regularly.

Check their water bottle regularly because the little ball freezes easily. Press the ball every few hours to keep it moving – you can get specially made bottle covers but you’ll still need to do regular checks.

Your rabbit still needs to have access to their run during the day, so they can get their regular exercise. Cold rabbits need more calories to keep warm so give them lots of good quality hay to nibble on.

During the winter foxes and badgers get even hungrier, which makes them bolder than usual. Make sure your hutch is sturdy enough to survive the attention of a determined predator.

Brushing your pet's teeth is the best way to prevent dental disease. We know that some pets are not going to tolerate brushing, but you would be surprised how many will if you start slowly and get them used to it. Even cats will allow it!!

Pedigree and the British Veterinary Dental Association have put together some guidelines to help people to brush their pet’s teeth.

February is National Pet Dental Health Month...

Did you know that 85% of adult pets have Periodontal disease... But what exactly is it?

Periodontal disease is IRREVERSIBLE and it effects the attachment of the teeth in the jaw so ultimately it can lead to tooth loss.

This is why acting early is the best way to prevent periodontal disease.
