A rare weather phenomenon called a temperature inversion fills the Grand Canyon with clouds. This happens when cold air is trapped below the rim by hot air above. This particular event is very rare in that the entire canyon has been filled with fog, something which only happens once every 10 years.

My new release, Canyon of Dreams, represents what was simply one of the most amazing sights I have ever experienced at the Grand Canyon. A summer rain was illuminated by the setting sun as it fell from the heavens into the canyon. This is the landscape and light that inspires me, the place I dream of, it is the place that makes my artistic heart beat with life.

Exposure info for this photo is available on my blog: http://adamschallau.com/2013/10/canyon-of-dreams-grand-canyon-national-park/

A winter storm at the Grand Canyon. Nothing compares to experiencing nature's power and beauty in place as majestic as the Grand Canyon.

I hope you don't mind photos from the past few years. I've been going through my archives and finally working on some images that were never finished. This is a shot of San Francisco de Asis church in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. Photographed with a Canon 5D Mark II and Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G lens adapted to the Canon EOS mount. Processed in Lightroom 4.

Taking "selfies" at the Grand Canyon with the kids from the Stewart L. Udall Parks in Focus Program! We had a great group and it's was tons of fun talking about art and photographing the canyon with them. I look forward to next year!

A special thanks to +Michael Strickland  for helping out this year! Be sure to checkout his work. Michael Strickland Photography

I'm working on a review of the latest lightweight technical photo daypack from Lowepro, the Flipside Sport 20L AW. Tell me...what color is your favorite, Galaxay Blue or Lowepro Orange? The color with the most votes is the one I will use in the review.

Lowepro has given me 2 of these packs to give away at my upcoming Grand Canyon workshop! You can get more info on my site:

+Adam Schallau ...I look forward to the review!

If I were a street shooter, I'd want the blue version...to avoid standing out in a crowd.

But as a primarily landscape photographer, I'd opt for the 'See me...Here I am, I've fallen and I can't get up' bright orange flavor.

I've done some online 'window shopping' for packs that advertise the side access feature, and will be interested to hear how useful you find that. And I'd almost surely add a water bladder to the hydration pocket. Used to ride with a CamelBak back when I did some mountain biking, and that was a great feature to insure I carried sufficient fluids.
