Those of you who saw my rambling talk on Linux dentry caches and kernel debugging with Systemtap will know what I'm talking about. Just going to leave this here for your amusement:

-      row = HAPROXY_COLUMN_NAMES.zip(CSV.parse(line)[0]).reduce({}) { |hash, val| hash.merge({val[0] => val[1]}) }
+      row = HAPROXY_COLUMN_NAMES.zip(CSV.parse_line(line))[0]).reduce({}) { |hash, val| hash.merge({val[0] => val[1]}) }

Wow! Great talks this evening!

Things were so good we ran way over time. I really enjoyed hearing about what the team over at Iron Yard is doing to educate developers and the awesome rants and passions everyone else has about core topics in our industry.

There was a bit of noise about how confusing git can be, and I gave a brief and potentially dry talk about crafting a git repository by hand (without using git binaries) later in the evening. If you weren't able to make it, or had to leave early because of a prior engagement or annoyed spouse, or simply wanted to review what I did, the presentation deck is available at http://cl.ly/3R3d3K3w200S/raw%20git.pdf.

Thanks for all the love and ping me with any questions or comments. Cheers!

P.S. I promised a 6 month GitHub plan to the winner, so we should probably figure that one out. =) Ties are cool with me. Just don't use CVS to store your code.

CHUUG rocks. Unfortunately I missed the meeting last night, and that bums me out.

Why did I miss it? I didn't know it was happening. I didn't see an email, and I didn't have the foresight to create a recurring calendar event. Even if I had, I'd still have to do work to find out where the event was being held.

Some problems I see:
- Google'ing for CHUUG doesn't find this group in the first few pages of results
- Google+ is a awful for managing the busy-work around events, but great for discussion
- It's really hard for new people to discover CHUUG. I spent a month researching the tech community in CHS before moving here, and didn't find out about CHUUG until I was told word-of-mouth at a CDC event.

How can we fix this?

I'd like to try http://meetup.com. It's been a valuable tool to me in the past for managing communication and other work surrounding an event. Meetup is also discoverable to a larger audience.

This doesn't imply we need to switch away from Google+. Google+ is a killer discussion forum with all the bells and whistles anyone could ask for, but it frankly blows at communicating to a larger audience that a meeting is going to occur, who's attending, and how to get there. I'd be happy to help out with the $72/yr fee for organizing a CHUUG group on meetup.com. We can point interested people to this Google+ community if they land on meetup.com and want to find out more.

How do people feel about extending the CHUUG footprint by adding a meetup.com presence for the group?

Hi Chuug'ers! I'm new to the Charleston area and met some awesome folks at the Charleston Digital Corridor friday meetup this morning who pointed me to this group.

A little bit about myself... I'm originally from the lowcountry, but have spent the last 13 years bouncing around the southeast hacking on technology for different startups. Currently, I work for GitHub, where I focus on web operations. I'm passionate about open source, free software, automation, monitoring and continuous delivery.

It's thrilling to discover such a vibrant social tech scene in Charleston! Looking forward to meeting everyone at the next meetup.

Cheers!

Excellent experience at Dick Smith. I worked with Joe Perdue and Tim Huxford to purchase a new Colorado and couldn't be happier. Hats off to Dick Smith Chevy for making the process easy, transparent, and enjoyable.
