Great presentation on some really interesting work.
Friend of the lab, +Stephen Mitroff, gave an excellent and important keynote address at the 2013 meeting of OPAM this past November, "Marrying Theoretical and Practical Goals to Inform Psychological Society and Society".

It's essential watching, particularly if you are an early-career researcher. (The talk itself runs only to 29 minutes; the rest of the time is Q&A.)

Compelling takedown of Gladwell's claim that cultural differences contributed to airline accidents

I never found that particular example from Outlier's compelling (for reasons other than those covered by this piece), but I hadn't realized how badly the book cherry picked examples and distorted the actual evidence and transcripts. I haven't read the original transcripts myself, but this post gives detailed examples and makes a strong case.

Our paper on the problems with control groups in psychology interventions is now available and free to everyone (open access). Thanks to APS and Sage for making that happen.
