NY1 News story with a video clip of me looking very doctor-ish (with gratuitous pictures of lady privates on the wall).
The de Blasio administration wants all pregnant women to be screened for depression as part of its sweeping overhaul of the city's mental health care system. Last week, federal regulators recommended that insurance cover such screenings. Health Reporter Erin Billups takes a look at a program that has been screening expectant moms for a decade.

Anything to reduce the stigma of mental illness and treatment is awesome!

Great presentation on some really interesting work.

Friend of the lab, +Stephen Mitroff, gave an excellent and important keynote address at the 2013 meeting of OPAM this past November, "Marrying Theoretical and Practical Goals to Inform Psychological Society and Society".

It's essential watching, particularly if you are an early-career researcher. (The talk itself runs only to 29 minutes; the rest of the time is Q&A.)

Compelling takedown of Gladwell's claim that cultural differences contributed to airline accidents

I never found that particular example from Outlier's compelling (for reasons other than those covered by this piece), but I hadn't realized how badly the book cherry picked examples and distorted the actual evidence and transcripts. I haven't read the original transcripts myself, but this post gives detailed examples and makes a strong case.
A few weeks ago, I attended a PGA golf tournament. You might think watching golf is boring, but I beg to differ: professional golf tournaments offer a chance to witness firsthand one of the amazing athletic feats in the world...

"It seems very odd for Harvard [University] to honor such a high profile popularizer of the irrational."

Our paper on the problems with control groups in psychology interventions is now available and free to everyone (open access). Thanks to APS and Sage for making that happen.

The world of psychology lost a giant last week. Dan Wegner was regularly years ahead of the field.

A stinging indictment of the U.S. education system. To my developmental psychology friends: Can't we do something about this?
