need to brainstorm a list of verb -> adjective -> noun sets. Especially ones that all use the verb as the base. Especially ones that are somehow related to marketing. But give me anything you can think of because I am drawing a big blank.

example:
to interact -> interactive -> interactivity
to resist -> resistive -> resistance
to object -> objective -> objectivity (except the definitions don't match)
to state -> stated -> statement

In September I did an intensive 1 month course in Prague to become a certified English teacher (Trinity Cert TESOL). Spent the past 2 weeks doing another intensive course with Berlitz language school in Berlin. Now I'm basically just waiting for my work visa to be granted and I'll start working in Chemnitz where I have rented a room in a train station.

Anyone have advice for route Prague to Emden? I am not sure if I should try to go via Berlin and/or Hamburg or take a more direct route. I really don't fancy getting stuck in Magdeburg. +Ralf Platschkowski ? anyone?

I didn't end up doing it from Prague but did hitch hike from Chemnitz to Emden via Gießen which might be the best route. First step is Prague to the A4 (Dresdener Tor or Auerswalder Blick), then head west on the A4 (get a ride at least to Raststätte Teufelstal Nord just past the A9 intersection for the next hop) making sure to stop at a big Rasthof and find a ride past Wetzlar before you get to Gießen (this is a small autobahn connection but a common enough route for people trying to get to Belgium or Netherlands), then work your way up the A1 or A31, being sure to skip any stops in the mess of highways around Essen, and find a ride to Emden before you get to Leer or Oldenburg (I highly suspect the last stops before, or inside of, either of those cities are not frequented by people who are heading into Emden and so I turned down several rides to Oldenburg).

Other than my stopover in Gießen that is essentially what I did except I took a ride to Aurich and hitch hiked through the villages to my final destination outside of Emden as it was Christmas and I had plenty of daylight to facilitate this. I beat the ICE from Gießen to Emden by more than an hour.

I did it. Overnight hitch hiking trip of 1290km from Arad, Romania to Giessen, Germany in 21 hours (door to door, 20 hours not including how long it took me to walk to my starting point). I started at 10:30pm local time in Arad, took 7 rides, and got dropped off right at my girlfriend's house at 18:30 local time. It was my first day over 1000km and my first overnight hitch hiking itinerary. It's about time I started putting some of the theory and experience into practice and making long successful trips.

Thanks to +Ralf Platschkowski for the inspiration to take my "trampsport" to the next level with his impressive 36hour Belgium - Moldova trips.

Successful hitch hiking is not about refusing to have goals and taking whatever ride comes your way; it's about getting from Point A to Point B on schedule and on budget. If you want to be spontaneous and change your schedule and destination (which you can do with any mode of transportation and has nothing to do with hitch hiking) you'll still want to know how to get there and get home again efficiently.

Double checking all the info. My hitch hiking plan from Arad to Giessen is about as solid as it gets but it hinges quite heavily on quickly finding long-distance rides that get me past Budapest and Vienna. After that I can just hop from rest stop to rest stop pretty easily if I have to and the only real obstacle remaining is the familiar drudgery of getting from Frankfurt to way-off-the-highway Giessen. I think I might take the bike over to my planned hitch hiking point later tonight to check the night traffic and see if anyone with good english or german knows about the traffic patterns there. I am considering a 11:30pm start on the 27th to increase my chances of getting to Frankfurt before nightfall on the 28th without getting to the border before midnight.

Tomorrow I will attempt to hitch hike 1200km (745miles) from Giessen, Germany to Szeged, Hungary in one day. If successful it will double the distance of my previous longest day of hitch hiking.

Well, that didn't work. Got stuck at Frankfurt Airport for 5 hours and then lots of bad traffic. Only made it to a rest stop just before Budapest by midnight. Although a failure it is also my best day of hitch hiking at 990km.

wow, just wow. First a little background: back in 2007 I gave a little over $400 to a global educational project: One Laptop Per Child. Their stated goal was to provide a rugged laptop with low power requirements with hardware capable of running all the basic educational software a classroom needs to bridge the gap between having no books or qualified teachers to having access to all the information on the internet and basic instructional software and then never upgrade the hardware unless it reduced cost and didn't disrupt the software environment. The resulting laptop was actually pretty cool, more powerful than the computers that I used in school that inspired me to think even a basic computer could really benefit children in developing countries, with features most mainstream laptops today still don't have. The OLPC XO Laptop. So I bought 2. One for me and one for a school in a developing country.

5.5 years later I get an email from OLPC and this is what they have to say about the project I helped them do:

"...do not waste another penny or minute buying more XO Laptops. They were cutting edge in 2007. They were still cool in 2009. But today the hardware looks dated and without a touchscreen, oh so limiting.
Worse, the XO Laptop never came with any decent software (OS or applications) or content - you always had to hand code your own programs and go begging for ebooks and reference materials."

http://www.olpcnews.com/tablets/xo_tablet/the_xo_tablet_just_killed_the.html

Not sure what made them think bashing their own work was a good idea. And their new product is basically just an android tablet...

Speaking of which: I turned an android tablet into a learning tool for Carina's little sister last week (hey, Pascal remind Ulrike to do her vocabulary practice please). With just a little bit of prodding she gets just as wrapped up in studying english vocabulary as she does with the top free games on the android market.

I did my "pro hitch hiker" duties and updated the hitch wiki map with a route out of odessa to the east, and cleaned up the description of the route out to the west. Enough procrastination though, time to hit the road.

Great instructor and class was a lot of fun. Very supportive even though I'm not yet a good dancer.
