Not really a photo message today but a great song lyric from one of my favorite singer songwriters that hopefully inspires like it has inspired me in the past, keep on working, even when all the doors are closed...

"When I was a younger man, looking for a pot of gold, everywhere I turned the doors were closed, took every once of faith I had to keep  on keeping on, still I felt like I would only lose, I refused then like I do now to let anyone tie me down, I lost a few good friends along the way, I was raised up poor and I wanted more, maybe I'm a little to proud, looking back I see a kid who was just afraid, hungry and old before his time..."   Ray LaMontange  from the song Old Before Your Time  I listening to this as I sift through 12000 photos....takes me back to the start of my career, funny how music does that...

AND something new no one has ever seen before from our shoot with Aspetar in Doha Qatar, Future Sports Two.

Stumbled on you,  +Tim Tadder by accident while looking for people who are interested in the welfare and conservation of bears (I'm an online animal rights activist and I'm trying to get the word out about bear bile farming - tortured in tiny cages 20+ years). Your photography skills are fantastic! Glad I found you :-)

If you want to know about that bear farming, watch some videos on Animals Asia YouTube channel, it's really bad.
Sorry for promoting that charity and talking about that, I probably should have left that out and just let you know how awesome I think your work is.

I'll be the first to admit that this is not the best pano of the Milky Way you will ever see, in fact you'll probably see a better one in a matter of minutes on G+! But I took this photograph more to illustrate a point.

Some people may think that you need to travel hundreds of miles into the dark wilderness to see the Milky Way, yet this picture was taken about 40 miles East of London, and 15 miles away from the closest town. Granted, of course there is still light pollution and I was shooting away from the cities and towns as best I could but it does go to show that you don't have to go out to the back and beyond to enjoy the night sky.

Now, I would never discourage anyone from travelling miles into the deserts, mountains and forests to find the darkest skies they can, as naturally the further you are away from artificial light the brighter the stars and the milky way will be and your experience for naked eye astronomy and photography will improve tenfold. But for when you don't have days to spare and have to be up for work in the morning these dark rural skies are good enough for a quick fix.

The worrying thing is that these locations are slowly disappearing. Light pollution from the growing towns, industrial estates, street lighting illuminating roads seldom used after nightfall is damaging these areas. Until about 100 years ago 99% of humans on Earth could look up and see the Milky Way, in modern times it is estimated that as many as 80% of people have never even seen it!

That is sad considering it may be, for a little while longer at least, closer to you than you think...

Clear skies.

Story

Advertising Photographer in southern California specializing in creating dramatic ad campaigns. We make exciting images of sports, people, action and enviroments for the works od print advertising and magazine.
Introduction
Tim is 6 feet 7 inches tall, he has a beard, 4 bicycles, and brown dog named Bailey. He was born in Baltimore, schooled in Virginia (BS Mathematics, he's a geek) and Ohio (MA in Visual Communications, also an artist). Tim worked for newspapers in Baltimore, Colorado, and San Diego as a photojournalist, before turning his sights on commercial and editorial photography in 2005. Since then he has been commissioned to make heroic portraits some of the world's most interesting humans, for example George W Bush, (liberal Tim did want to have a Beer with him....) and Bill Gates (he cringed at the sight of his iPhone and mac book pro) Personal highlights include working with Michael Phelps, Kid Rock, Ice Cube, and Tom Brady (Tim's wife keeps a copy of the photo in her wallet, is that weird?).

Best known for his powerful portraits and high action intense sports imagery Tim has enjoyed the privilege of working with great creatives creating award winning campaigns (Communications Arts Photo Annuals, Graphis Golds, Kelly Awards, Archive Showcases, Addy's etc) for global brands like, Adidas, Budwieser, McDonalds, Under Armour, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Gatorade, Powerade, Sears, Craftsman, Mercedes Benz, Bud Light, Microsoft, Sony, Gillette and many more.

Currently calling Southern California home, Tim refuses to buy a winter coat, preferring, as his daughters say, let his bear like fur protect him from the elements as he travels to and fro in search of the best creatives campaigns and the most fun people to work with.
