Tried my new CGEM DX for astrophotography of the planet Saturn last night. What a nice scope compared to most others I've had! The polar alignment with the polar scope was a breeze! I didn't need to tweak it any with the All-Star polar alignment or drift alignment. The polar scope got it close enough to keep Saturn in the field of view with only occasional adjustments. And the goto was amazing. I did a two-star alignment with one calibration star and my first automatic goto put Mars almost dead center in the field of view! The only downside so far is the weight of the mount and tripod. However, I'm already getting quick at taking it apart into pieces that can be easily carried outside. I'm looking forward to using it on DSO's soon. Ray Shore

A great overview of iOptron's  ZEQ25 and brand new CEM60 “center-balanced” mounts. In the video, Sky & Telescopes senior editor Dennis di Cicco speaks with Paul Chasse at NEAF 2014. Paul, who is an avid amateur astronomer / astro-imager in the Northeast is well known for the wealth of information he provides online (in forums, Youtube, his own website, etc.) for the iOptron mounts. He helped me with my ZEQ25GT polar alignment awhile back which I was very grateful for! Ray Shore

Well, if I ever get a break in the weather (and available time), I'll be using my new iOptron ZEQ25GT to image Saturn. To go along with it, I have a 6" Meade SCT that seems to fit this mount nicely. Tomorrow night's looking like it might work out so keeping my fingers crossed :-). Ray Shore

Obtaining critical focus is an extremely important aspect of astrophotography. Being slightly out of focus can make the difference between a marginal photo and a masterpiece. Jeff Turner at DaltonSkyGazer Observatory provides a helpful tutorial on using a Bahtinov Mask to achieve the best focus possible.

It's a great time for planetary astrophotography with Mars and Saturn being prominently placed in the night sky. To get the most out of your planetary imaging, check out "Five Tips for Enhanced Webcam Astrophotography" on Astrophotography Tonight website.
