Parking is not that bad, it was pretty normal for a hotel on the beach. I was pretty torn up the whole trip and still remember something about the parking but its really not why you go to a beach front hotel, for parking. For the price and location this place is definitely on point.

BEWARE!!! Charged $238 to my card yet, I NEVER MADE A RESERVATION HERE! Said reservation was through a '3rd party" and sent me on a wild goose chase of never ending phone calls - bottom line was that THE HOTEL REFUSED to refund my money for a reservation I DID NOT MAKE! Fraud Claim has been filed - thanks for the headache Surfer Beach

Great location, right on the water. Get a room overlooking the sunset for a perfect evening on the balcony. Had some check in problems but its a small establishment so processes may not be standardized but i'll gladly give that up for a more personal touch. You can pay $15 for parking or you can drive around the blocks a few times and find a spot. People tend to come and go quickly around here so for us it was not a challenge.

Beware of the parking scam that this hotel has going with a tow company. I paid the extra $ to park in their lot, but my car was towed and it cost me almost $300 plus a taxi ride to retrieve it. It was very evident by the scratches on the window frame that a slim jim was used to get into the car to remove the parking tag. When I contacted the San Diego police, I was told that this scam happens frequently. DO NOT STAY at this hotel.

I'll start with the bad and hopefully finish on a good note. When we arrived, we found out we had to pay extra to park in their parking lot, where the spaces are incredibly tiny (we saw numerous SUVs parked in compact spots, probably due to lack of space). When we arrived in our room, my SO noted that the floor was sticky (she took off her flip-flops and walked around barefoot) - I then opted to keep my shoes on in the room. This was probably for the better, because after I took my first shower, I took the wet floor towel/mat and dragged it around the tile floor with my feet. When I picked it up, the towel was BLACK. I don't think those floors had ever been cleaned, or if they had, very poorly. Gross! The carpet in the room was just as bad. When I walked around barefoot I could tell that it was greasy / dingy, and a bunch of dirt / crumbs stuck to my feet whenever I walked around (not from us!). Also, the heater installed into the wall was burnt and discolored orange/brown. The linens appeared to be clean at first glance, but I noticed stains on some of our towels, and a permanent discoloration (it looked grey or "wet") on the side of our bed sheets. One of the pillowcases we received, we think may have had blood spatter on it, too, but it was faint. It is worth mentioning that this place has NO AIR CONDITIONING. They say they advertise it (or they "don't advertise what they don't have"), and that the ocean breeze is enough to keep the room cool, but we stayed in the middle of a hot period in August and it was very uncomfortable sleeping at night when the room is 80 degrees and the humidity is no doubt near 100%. All they give you is a box fan in the closet to keep you cool ... and ours was dusty. Lastly, the elevator seemed to be an afterthought... It realistically can only hold two people with luggage, so if you have any more than that, you'll be waiting for a second trip. And it's pretty slow, too. On a more positive note... The view was amazing. During the time of year that we went, the sunset was blocked by the other half of the rooms, but that's not something anyone can control. The beach access was very convenient, it literally only takes a minute or two to get from your room to the beach and back again. The bathroom in the room was clean, I didn't notice anything wrong with the shower or toilet, which is good. The staff seemed friendly when we checked in and out, but that interaction was limited and we didn't get a lot of other time to talk to them. The pool and pool area are nice... It's a 3-8½ foot pool ,which you don't typically see anymore, which was a pleasant surprise. They have a station for washing yourself off after coming from the beach, if you want to swim in a pool instead of the ocean. The local area is good, there are a lot of local restaurants and shops that are within walking distance. So overall, not a clean stay, but the location was good. If you're going to be spending minimal time in the room and don't mind the heat or humidity, it's not a bad place. Note: I would have contacted the staff about the room cleanliness, but I read a bunch of other reviews saying similar things so I figured it wasn't really worth it to "poke the bear", so to speak.

i have only been here TWiCE, but that's all it took for me to LOVE this place!! i really don't think you'll find a BETTER priced hotel that is practically ON the beach!! OH, and the restaurant right NEXT to the hotel, "World Famous Restaurant" is ONE of THEE BEST, if not THE BEST, place to eat at! i recommend the lobster tacos, the steak dinner, the drinks, everything! i also, highly recommend staying at "The Surfer Beach Hotel" any day of the year :) :) :) !!!!

We booked a block of rooms for our wedding and they not only screwed up over half the reservations, but then they mistakenly informed us they would be charging us for twice the rooms we had booked, causing massive anxiety for us a day before the wedding. They ultimately didn't overcharge, but they did offer to comp us over the phone, an offer they did not make good on. The service was horrible and even offensive- when we checked in (night of the wedding), Tim at the front desk was on the phone with an angry customer, and hung up said to us loudly about the customer: "I wish I was back in Afghanistan where we had an excuse to kill people like that". Overall I've never had a worse hotel experience and strongly suggest you stay away. Best Western across the street is a much better option, which is unfortunate, because we prefer to support independent businesses.

Hotel is old but still clean and in a great location. Felt that the customer service (office personal) were rude.
