#AskTheExpert
Have a #fertility , #pregnancy , #birth or #parenting question? Send it our way and someone from our Natal to Nest team of experts will answer! http://www.nataltonest.com

Q "How do I tell my doctor I don't want to be induced unless it's absolutely medically necessary? The thought of the conversation and pressure is causing me anxiety. "

A. This is a common fear for pregnant women/couples. Having a conversation with your provider that you think may not be welcomed. What you have to remember is to always practice positive communications. Your first positive talk that you have with your provider should be early on in your pregnancy when you talk about your wishes for your care during your pregnancy and birth. If you're not on the same page, you have time to find a practitioner that is supportive of your wishes.

This relationship is very important. You should never feel fear or pressure when talking about your care with your provider. This relationship should be supportive and full of trust. Once you have a provider that you have this relationship with, conversations about your concerns and wishes will feel welcomed.

SO, what happens if your the pregnant mom reading this and you're insurance limits your option to go outside of their group? You still have the option to find a provider within that group that you feel connected with and you can see this person for all of your prenatal visits. Sure, this may not be the practitioner whom "catches" your newborn, but they will be the person that overseas your prenatal care, ultimately the person you have these conversations with.

Some more options for everyone. Hire a doula to support you. Choose a midwife, or even an out of hospital birth at a birthing center or a home birth. Get connected with your birthing community for resources. Stop by the Natal to Nest office to talk with us about your specific concerns or questions. There's always options, but fear, anxiety and pressure or not any of them.
