Hopdoddy
1400 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704
Hopdoddy is what I would consider a novelty burger bar. Their burgers are designed to wow, but are not something I would go for regularly. During busy hours, lines can form out the door as you make your way up to the counter and place an order. They do have a full bar here so feel free to order up a drink while you wait. Portions are large so you may be doggy bagging some of that burger home. I would suggest the Buffalo Bill buffalo burger, if your into that type of thing.

Frank Restaurant
407 Colorado Street, Austin, TX 78701
A staple in downtown Austin, Frank's is the place to visit if you're in the mood for a good dog and beer. Check out their regular specials to try something unique or just go with the classics. They specialize in fried, bacon wrapped, and cheese filled hotodgs and sausages here so this is not a place for the calorie conscious. A nice selection of beers are available and the poutine fries are a must have with a variety of dipping sauces.

Cantina Laredo
201 West 3rd Street, Austin, TX 78701
Cantina Laredo has become a regular spot for myself and colleges of mine to swing in for some quick mexican food. They have a lot of different margaritas available. If you're feeling adventurous, try the Three Amigos which features a large margarita, an extra shot of tequila and a small bottle of corona. To eat, I'd recommend the carnitas, which fall right off the bone. You also can't go wrong with the queso and chips.

Max's Wine Dive
207 San Jacinto Boulevard, Austin, TX 78701
Max's is a great spot to drop by anytime of day. They specialize in comfort foods like fried chicken, grilled cheese and their my highly recommended favorite, truffle mac and cheese. This place blends aspects fine dining with a familiar pub feel (and price!) and is not to be over looked.

The Highball
1142 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78704
The Highball has been an amazing part of Austin life offering food, drink, vintage bowling, live music and private karaoke rooms. The decor is awesome and reminds me of an old casino aesthetic. Many a good time has been had here, but unfortunately they will be closing for a move this November to open back up fall 2013. We will all be excited to see what the new Highball brings next year.

Franklin Barbecue
900 East 11th Street, Austin, TX 78702
If you haven't heard about Franklin Barbecue, you have been missing out. Controversially seen as the best barbecue in Austin (if not in Texas) this is must have. Don't think you can just swing by though, lines to get an order in start early and they stay open until they run out for the day which could be within hours. Go early and expect to wait at least an hour and a half to indulge in this exclusive meat. I would recommend the brisket which may very well be the best I have ever had.

Truluck's
400 Colorado Street, Austin, TX 78701
One of my favorite happy hour spots in Austin. Located right downtown, you cannot miss it's bright marquee lights on the corner. The bartenders here must be professional mixologists because every drink is perfectly balanced. The happy hour cannot be beat, half off all drinks and the bar menu before 7PM. I would suggest trying a cup of the lobster bisque, which is on top of my list.

Backspace
507 San Jacinto Boulevard, Austin, TX 78701
When it comes to pizza in downtown Austin, you will be hard pressed to find the spots that really stick out. Backspace is one of them. Hidden on a side street off of East 6th you will find this small gem with only a few tables for seating. Enjoy a glass of Peroni beer and order a pie or two. The crust is cracker like, cooked in a brick oven, and the toppings taste great.

Iron Cactus Mexican Grill & Margarita Bar
606 Trinity Street, Austin, TX 78701
The Iron Cactus is a popular spot located on East 6th Street. They have a large tequila selection and some pretty decent food. I would suggest the lobster tacos and a blueberry fizz to drink. The best part about this location is the rooftop patio where you can get some fresh air, sun, and a view of the goings on downtown.
