Hey folks,

In case you didn't hear, Michael Fantin passed away last week. He was part of +Brenda Wolfe's and mine "con family" and was definitely part of the greater nerd tribe.

This is a fundraiser for his daughter and grandsons to offset the cost of his final arrangements.

Overall, this hit me hard. Michael was literally a light anytime you saw him. His smile made you feel like you were the most important person at that moment. I don't think I ever played a game with him, but spent many hours sitting and chatting, sharing stories about kids and life and everything in between. And I know Brenda did the same.

It appears that Michael took his own life (no official word yet). This made me think about all of you out there, my tribe. My nerd family. I wouldn't have thought Michael had a care in the world, but that's lazy thinking on my part. Everyone has stuff they're going through. Ups and downs. If anyone out there ever needs to talk, you can always reach me on here, or call me directly at 512-698-2573. If you don't want to talk to me, talk to someone. Your life is special and you're important.

I love all ya'll. Be safe.
This past weekend, I learned of the unexpected passing of my best friend, Michael Fantin. He was my trusty companion for the past for GaryCons, and I will miss him more than words can express. Many of you may have met him there. He was truly a great man, and the best friend you could ask for. He leaves behind a daughter and two grandsons. I have started a gofundme to raise some money to help the family during this difficult time. Thank you.

I really like this approach. Armed, unmanned vehicles to scout, mark positions, and harry the enemy, while the manned vehicles maneuver for effect.

I can imagine the network of ground/air unmanned vehicles making it very difficult for the enemy.

This has a whole host of interests for me -- the Viking king that invented the Bluetooth protocol to communicate to his nearby vikings being the least of the interests.

What strikes me about the photo is how thin these silver coins are -- they look practically like foil.

Post-GaryCon.

Me and +Brenda Wolfe are safely back in the Austin area. And as I'm looking to my pillow, I will fondly remember another fantastic five days in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin... more or less the birthplace of our hobby.

High points --
I finally got to meet +Jose LaCario in person -- we've played together for years online. He's as awesome in person as he is online...

Also met +M Hobbs -- the better of the Hobbs brothers... :)

Met +Todd Sprang and his lovely wife (who's name I completely forget). Another online regular.

+Jason Hobbs finally ran Kalmatta live... twice! Though +Eric Hoffman believes Hobbs used his fat podcast bank to bribe us to stage the whole thing.

Played a great western shoot-out game with Eric, Jason, +John Bird ... I think Jose... can't remember. It was a great game though. Hobbs and Bird's team won, which sucked. But, great time.

Played a fantastic game of DCC Dying Earth with +Julian Bernick. Brenda was in that game, too. And somehow, I don't understand how this happened, it was also the first game I played with +Jim Skach. Very cool system (though it's super secret). I couldn't necessarily tell if it was the system or the players' love of Vancian fiction, but the game sounded like a Vance story as we played it. The "Cugel" character at our table was particularly spot on.

Played a playtest of a DCC adventure with +Daniel Bishop, Michael Bishop, Julian, Brenda and one other guy. Really fun scenario -- not sure how much I can talk about, but suffice to say we were powerful and became only more powerful. A rarity for DCC.

A session of Barrowmaze with +Greg Gillespie who is a great DM and great all around guy. His adventure is one of my favorites, and it was fun to watch him run something I've run many, many times.

And a session of Star Frontiers (cut short unfortunately, because B and I had to leave, run by +Cory Gahsman. I haven't played that since high school and it really got the itch started again. Looking to run Frontierspace in that universe, I think.

The Cultural Exchange on Saturday night was a wild success. 50+ folks brought the foods and beverages of their people and hung out and socialized to close out the con. I had more deep conversations than I can count that night and others... Talking game design with +Clint Bohaty, rambling chats with +David Baity, writing perils with +Daniel Bishop, gaming and life with +Cory Gahsman, +Julian Bernick, life and philosophy with +Doug Kovacs, played Flammable Hospital with +Jarrett Crader, Doug, and a bunch of new friends.

Overall, my gaming community is like a family. We bicker a bit, have a good time (sometimes too much of a good time) and I love all you crazy bastards.

It's always bittersweet when it ends, but I'm happy to be home and looking forward to seeing a few folks in June at North Texas RPG Con.

Gunfighting with +Sean P Kelley , +Jason Hobbs +Eric Hoffman and +John Bird #garyconx

The vigilantes won, but Eric's Doc Holliday held out to the end.

Kalmatta live happened. Mine and +Brenda Wolfe 's characters didn't last against the goatmen.

+John Bird and his hirelings escaped. +M Hobbs came to in the goatman lair...died fighting.
