This. Is. Awesome.

This is quite simply brilliant, watch the video if you are an expert in your field. We have all felt like this #engineer at times for whatever field it is that you specialize in...

Surely the "answer" is that the series does not converge, and therefore the sum does not have, for all intents and purposes, an "answer". It's like asking what happened before the big bang.

I agree that upgrading a 50,000 core cloud in 6 hours with no VM cycling is pretty good. Still, not quite a one-step operation, I bet the OpenStack project can & will do better.

Our Cloud in Havana
TL;DR Upgrading a 50,000 core cloud from Grizzly to Havana can be done with a series of steps, each of which can have short periods of reduced functionality but with constant VM availability. At CERN, we started our production cloud service on Grizzly in Ju...

+Dave Neary Actually, it did not take that much time to prepare... reading the docs, making a plan for each component, brain-storming on back-out plans and then doing it... just taking it nice and slow.

Skills at Linux are easier to find than good home improvement professionals in the Pays-de-Gex :-)

Looks beautiful! Wonder if +Sam Kottler is going there?

I was very pleased to make the hike from Paro Valley in Bhutan up to the famous Tiger's Nest (Taktsang) Monastery.  The valley is at 2300m (7300 ft) and the Tiger's Nest is at 3210m (10240 ft), so I was a bit concerned about the elevation.  The round trip took almost 5 hours, including 40 minutes looking at the various rooms in the monastery.  The guards were very strict about checking anything that could take a photo, and everyone got frisked, so no photos of the inside.  The visit was an extremely memorable experience - in more ways than one - and must be even more significant for Buddhists.  I highly recommend the trip/adventure.

Do kids in primary school in the US learn to write with joint writing or script? I have no idea.

+Dave Neary -- yes, unfortunately.  Even the so-called "good" public schools tend to be academically inadequate and politically slanted.  The only ones that consistently perform well are charter and some private schools, and the teachers' unions are waging war on them as a result.

This has been going on a long time.  When I taught at Wharton (1981-1994), my students were the cream of the crop...and most of them couldn't write a coherent paragraph, not to mention the multitudinous spelling and grammar mistakes.  I told them if they didn't improve, those Harvard MBAs would eat them for lunch -- not actually true, but a good motivator. :)
