Wish there was a site like this for graphic designers!
It's Time For Something Different

I hate the entire job search process.  Don't you? Putting together a resume that will get noticed is too difficult.  Searching through job banks takes too much time.  Putting your resume out on current job sites results in too much SPAM or worse bad job leads.  Because the best engineers usually have an OK job, this leads to inertia.

You may think that this is just what it takes to find a job but that doesn't make any sense.  Ask any growing tech company and they will tell you they are desperate for the right talent.  If good engineering talent is in so much demand, why do engineers have to go through this tedious job search process?

They don't.  Having been both an engineer and a hiring manager, I got fed up with the whole situation.  So I decided to do something about it.  That's why today, I'm proud to announce persway.me  It's designed to take the pain out of the hiring process and give everybody exactly what they want.

Great engineers get to hear about the right job opportunities without the painful job search process or the fear of receiving too much junk.  Less noise, better jobs.  Companies can spend less time scouring mountains for resumes for people who don't have the right qualifications and spend more time focused on trying to get the better engineers to join.  Quality not quantity.

For the next five days we want to celebrate our public unveiling.  For job seekers, we will be giving out 100 invites to the site (the site is and will remain invite only).   For those with job openings, we will be giving away five free job listings.  Sign up is simple and takes under 3 minutes after you are accepted.

If you work in a technical field, sign up here - persway.me/beta
If you hire technical people, sign up here - persway.me/hire
If you like the idea or you just like me, share this post.    :)

Yesterday I went to a class in the afternoon and worked on negative painting. Although this is not what I painted yesterday (contemplating buying an expensive large-format scanner today so that I can scan in my new piece), it shows you sort-of what negative painting is -- you paint around the area, indicating what you mean to paint. So, notice how I painted around the flowers but not the flowers themselves and how I painted the insides of the leaves, not the veins. It's a fun way to represent complicated subjects, I think.

I painted this from an image I found on Flickr, and I have no idea what kind of flower it is. Any ideas?

For the last couple of years I have been commissioned by Glenmary Home Missioners to paint images for the Christmas and Easter appeals. What's funny is that around Christmas they are planning for Easter and plan for Christmas in the summer months. Yesterday I was contacted by them again to help with their Easter artwork again -- so as we enter into the fall/holiday season, my mind is on Easter! Below is the Easter painting from last year, which I think came out so well!
