An article in today's LA Times business section talks about the current Sriracha product explosion that's driven partly by the fact that Huy Fong Foods did not trademark the word. Interesting for two reasons: the certainty by professional opinion holders in the food industry that not doing so was a huge mistake, and by David Tran's lack of concern about it. He calls it free advertising; he may be right.

New China Stat: The Economist reported that China has surpassed the US as the largest importer/exporter of goods. Opportunity knocks for mobile ads given the size of the smartphone market there and the preference for mobile as the primary means for media consumption.

Nicely put by eMarketer's Noah Elkin and we couldn't agree more. "Mobile has a role to play in every step of the customer's journey."

Good reminder of how much technology has changed in a relatively short time. Most of the functionality advertised in this 1991 RadioShack ad can be had in a single smartphone that fits in the palm of your hand.

The IAB plans to examine mobile in the context of cross-media ad effectiveness. Their upcoming cross-screen advertising study should prove to be an interesting read.
