New blog post about #NASA 's recent announcement about HUNDREDS of new planets and how we're more concerned with what Justin Bieber is doing...

Whether there’s some truth to it or I’ve just watched too many movies and come from a curious family of imaginative, science-enthralled minds, it seems to me that there was a time in the past where...

Harper's Conservatives love misnomers. I have an idea for a few more...

Harper and his Conservative government seem to think all Canadians are stupid, and see it as an opportunity. Once again they are irresponsibly rushing a piece of broken legislation through parliame...

I haven't been using Google+ much, even as someone who was once sort of an "evangelist" for the platform. It's still great with lots of potential, but until social media dashboards like +HootSuite  start letting us manage our personal profiles with it, it's honestly just extra work to micromanage next to my other accounts that I cross post to.

Because of things like this, a lot of people and their respective audiences aren't hanging out here. Hopefully that changes, I've been fond of a lot of the new changes they've implemented and it's on the right track again. #Google + #SocialMedia +Google+ +Google

I wrote a review of a game called "Papers, Please" - a 1980s communist dystopia game where you play an immigration agent. Sound boring?
Read why it's not :)

I haven't been hanging around Google+ so much in anticipation of some eventual changes that will allow me to enjoy using it more. I should though, and in the meantime, I'd appreciate any friends or strangers following +Direwires  - a music project I'm bringing back from the dead. Tomorrow I'll be giving something away for people to enjoy.

#Facebook is  full of annoying little issues. What ones bother you?

This one bothers me the most right now:
Notification: "Hey, a bunch of people responded to your comment somewhere!"

click -> Oh hey, look! 200 other comments, but not mine or the responses to it... I guess I better spend 10 minutes scrolling through everything just to see what people said to me!
It may or may not be fashionable to tell people we dislike Facebook in a Facebook post or discuss the implications of various changes in a personal or business context (which among the majority of the friends and acquaintances many of us keep usually boils down to “this is stupid, ...

Forcing kids who are all very different to react the same way to a certain set of conditions/demands/environments and labelling them as problems when they don't is a part of the problem.

As an aside, mental health is important, and it's also important not to diminish what medication CAN do for people - sometimes it's an important part of getting someone's mind functioning the way it needs to and they're happy about it (the same way people who have trouble seeing get glasses).

However, sometimes people just need to be who they are. Not everyone is going to be great at repetitive low-level clerical work (to borrow from Sir Ken Robinson who has lots of great things to say on this subject).

Lots of talented minds are put on the sidelines for not being good little worker bees and sometimes they're simply not meant to be bees at all, and could be destined for great things... things they could achieve easier if we were willing to at least meet them half-way and not tell them they're somehow required to be just like a totally different person and meet ridiculous expectations designed for someone completely different.

The way education is approached in North America generally needs to be turned upside down, but it's a large undertaking and one that frightens a lot of people. We're ultimately afraid of change, and what we have now doesn't really prepare people for the "real world" as many are fond of suggesting.

The "do well in school the way we've designed it, or else you can't hack it in the rest of the world, anything else is a 'free ride'" is one of the saddest scams I've seen in my short time on this planet and it's discouraging that we keep it alive.
