For just one night, I knew what it felt like to be a beach bum...

Lately I've been walking my dog along the Newburyport boardwalk early in the morning. The harbor never fails to enthrall me with its ever-changing flotilla of boats: everything from sailboats to yachts from distant places.

Just got a rejection letter today, and stumbled onto this great piece on Lit Hub on the power of rejections to make us better writers. Very inspriing--if only to know that a writer as good as this one is going through the same process I am.

These lovely flower people greeted me as I started my hike on the Bay Circuit Trail through Willowdale yesterday. Hello, Summer!

So forget "Zombies, Run!" If you need inspiration to run faster, try the Rowley marshes. I ran there this week and got dive-bombed by mosquitos, deer flies, and greenheads. Never ran faster in my life, despite the incredible views! Love the grass that grows in these ocean wave patterns, though...ALMOST worth the bug bites!

Don't miss the fantastic exhibit of artist Harrison Cady's work at the Cape Anne Museum--it's easy to fall into his detailed, whimsical illustrations.

As a workhorse of a writer and a new runner, I love this piece comparing the two. Especailly this line: "Experience doesn't erase the struggle."

Continuing my habit of trying to run in new places! This week I've been running on Bothwell Beach, a gorgeous beach on the Northumberland Strait that takes you all the way to Basin Head Provincial Park--such bliss to be here first thing in the morning before sitting down to write!

Bliss: Today I took my first run of the summer along Bothwell, my favorite beach on PEI, where this afternoon the sea gave us steps that seemed to lead to Cape Breton Island.
