Being a retired pitch man is such a drag.
I have ideas that my mind runs rampant with, but no one to pitch them to. And dont say DIY. At my age that is a waste of breath. I just sit around waiting for someone else to think of it and do it.  :(

My big fun project I was thinking of giving DARPA showed up in a video game recently.

My next one should probably go to Google. Its fast, easy, and change the world as we know it. Oh well someone else is bound to think of it. But I bet they cant pitch it as well as I can.  :)

Gandalf, now you understand how I feel. I have, what I feel is a multi million dollar idea. I can't code. If I had a code writer to write the program as I envision it, I feel that I can promote the idea, pitch it to the targeted industries.
Best, Pete

THANK YOU SONIC.NET
Another reason why I will not bundle. Give me phone by a company that knows phone, cable by one that knows cable, and internet by someone who has done it right since the beginning. I dont want to talk to confused techs that were thrown in to "save me money".

What heppened was, I got email complaints that one of my online worlds (Shadowdale MUD) was down. Actually the server was limping along, the mud was up and running, but the domain (address) had lapsed. I got notices on it but I was at my sons bedside in the hospital for a couple of weeks so I kept putting it off.

As SOON as I told Sonic yes that I did want to renew, it was back. That minute. Before they got payment. One of a long list of reasons I love them.

I have admined internet servers since before internet was called Internet. And I have to say (again) that I heartily recommend Sonic. Especially to any SysAdmins.

Interesting.
I logged onto my machine. My browser comes up. The home page is set to Google search. The google doodle (google logo art) was a Happy Birthday image of cakes with the tag of Happy Birthday Gandalf!
Thank you Google.

But clicking it went to my Google+ page. Hmmm.. abit of a nudge there. :)
Doing a google search with quotes such as "Gandalf Parker" would have been more fun AND would be a useful service to people. Its something I recommend often to people. If your name, address, phone, siblings, parents, dead siblings, social security come up on the net for any reason, good or bad, you should want to know.

I am waiting for one more slight hardware innovation and I think I could bust NFC tags all over our lives. But I guess I need to wait for it, or convince someone to create it, or win the lottery to pay for it.
(and no, this is not my other project Wifi-My-Dog)

Yeah yeah I know. I hear that a lot.
But its a hardware thing which is WAY outside of my comfort zone. And not really the focus of the project. I just need someone to put it out there so I can extend on it.

I can probably give it away eventually to someone.

Dangerous Thought:
My techy self has been exploring the world of mobile computing as a mix with my other world of animal training. Now I am fearful. I need to find a company to umbrella this project before I let it go any further. I have to find someone to pitch it to.

Stray thought: I wonder if anyone has looked into what Google Glass can do for sufferers from strokes. People with Aphasia particularly. The ability of Augmented Reality to remind the person what the correct word is for each item they are looking at would be fantastic.

I had a high-tech friend who had such a stroke. By the time he relearned english enough, his tech as out of date.  :(

RARELY do I have to say that I am disappointed in technology.   :(
I wanted a bluetooth, NOT a headset, that vibrated. I just need to know if my phone rings when I have my headphones on and listening with the music cranked up (which is often).

Im good at searches. I came up with the right keyword combinations and found a lot. Apparently its a common enough complaint. The vibrate on phones isnt good enough. And there were many products. Bracelets, watches, rings, armbands, amulets. And cool features like the armband not only vibrating but showing the number, one-button to send to voice message, another button hangs up, and the bracelet could vibrate if you walked away from your phone too far so you wouldnt leave it someplace.

But I cant find any of them that anyone likes! Lots of companies have products but all of the reviews from users seem to be unhappy. I am unhappy with technology this morning. :(

If you could get a text message sent to your phone anytime a specific thing popped up, what would it be? Such as... if you could tell the internet, right now, that if your house address appears in a late-breaking news item then you should be texted.. would you? Or maybe even any news on your whole street? Or a family member? Or some social group you are a part of? Maybe a specific item showing up on eBay? or wanting to be the first one at work to get the word on that sports team moving? or anything about your favorite music group and your town being mentioned together?

Did you know that Google does that?
Well maybe not on purpose.
But it is possible and it works pretty slick.

WOW. I knew about 3D Printing. But I did not know about Bio-Printing. taking a cell sample, then using a 3D printer to create a missing body part that can be surgically attached. IT EXISTS. And there is already a commercial printer for it. WOW.

But now my overly creative mind has been loosed upon the idea. When do we get to get creative? If I won the lottery and bought one of those printers I would setup a business to get those pets I always wanted. My lottery bucket list always included getting some of those live unicorns, winged cats, and gargoyle dogs. They all exist now but are really hard to get. Turn me loose with this printer. Please! You KNOW its going to be coming anyway.

I  am afraid that I am past #ifIhad
Back when I was healthier and more mobile it would have been great. I can foresee a time when it would have allowed me both of my worlds. I would have been able to monitor multiple internet servers, moderate forums, ops channels, see emergency emails (all of which I did do). But at the same time I would be able to walk the woods, sit by a lake, go fishing, spend training time with my dogs, attend my childrens events. All of which I had to choose away from.

In fact, the possibility of an overworked system administrator being able to continue administrating full attention while getting a needed massage or time in a hottub should be added as a marketing point.

PLUS I love the possibilities of the glasses telling me what plants I am looking at, or about the restaurant I am about to enter. Also as a life-long gamer I can see some real possibilities for LARP or first-person shooters such as a virtual/live paintball game without the paint.

For the sake of national security, PLEASE, everyone learn how to verify before panicking. Hot in the news right now is that the Chinese military have put major effort to hacking US sites. This is not new news to us in computer security. All countries do it. Even ours. But China apparently made efforts in other areas than just government information. Sites such as FaceBook and Twitter were targeted. Why? Because panic can so easily be created. Its a tactic, a strategy, they wanted to have available. Do not allow it by our nation or any others.

SNOPES.COM the definitive Internet reference source for urban legends, folklore, myths, rumors, and misinformation. Please before any "everyone repost this" check with Snopes.

NEWS.GOOGLE.COM or any such site. If it really is a news item then we are not likely to hear it here before it is on the news. See if it is there. See if it is being said by multiple sources. See if one of the sources is one you choose to accept.

Google.com SEARCH can be tightened in order to make sure you do not just get the flood of opinions. In this case I recommend learning how to add something like site:usa.gov to a search to insure that Google ONLY gives you results from official government websites.

Story
Introduction

[Edit]

Hello my name is Gandalf Parker.

And yes that is my real name. Well actually Anthony Ardell Gandalf Parker. I'm an old Jack of all Trades. I'm retired military (USAF). I'm married (separated) with 2 sons. I grew up in Iowa, now I live in California. I have a nice house. 4 bdr, 2 bath, fireplace, huge back yard.

I'm presently way too much of a mouse-potato. Telecommute is great but Internet is fattening. I really am trying to motivate myself to "just push away from the table" (well in this case, the computer desk) and get out more. Unfortunately my sons situation and my disease HS keeps me limited to 3 options; something he can attend also, or something very close (like in Vacaville), or something well in advance that is worth planning lots of coverage from other family members so I can attend.
