+Nina Pelletier , and anyone else who may want this and not know about it, I just stumbled across this bit of info on getting a single-column layout. Still not as nice as before, especially size-wise, but better than nothing.

If you, like me, are all WTF?? over the new Google+ layout, take heart - you can switch to single-column layout. Look at the top of your screen, under "More".

I breathe again.

‎""On every world, wherever people are, in the deepest part of the winter, at the exact mid-point, everybody stops and turns and hugs. As if to say, 'Well done. Well done everyone. We're halfway out of the dark.'" Back on Earth, we called this Christmas, or the Winter Solstice."

Happy halfway through the dark to EVERYONE.

I'd never seen this picture before; how cool, and inspiring.

This is what integrity looks like.

August Landmesser was a worker at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, best known for his appearance in a photograph refusing to perform the Nazi salute at the launch of the naval training vessel Horst Wessel on 13 June 1936.

A good read for today.

"When reading the Declaration, it is worth keeping in mind two very important facts. The Declaration constituted high treason against the Crown and every person who signed it would be executed as traitors should they be caught by the British. Second, the Declaration was considered to be a legal document by which the revolutionaries justified their actions, and explained why they were not truly traitors. It represented, as it were, a literal indictment of the Crown and Parliament, in the very same way that criminals are now publicly indicted for their alleged crimes by grand juries representing “the People.”"

and

"The assumption of natural rights expressed in the Declaration of Independence can be summed up by the following proposition:  “first comes rights, then comes government.”  According to this view: (1) the rights of individuals do not originate with any government, but preexist its formation;  (2) The protection of these rights is the first duty of government; and (3) Even after government is formed, these rights provide a standard by which its performance is measured and, in extreme cases, its systemic failure to protect rights — or its systematice violation of rights — can justify its alteration or abolition; (4) At least some of these rights are so fundamental that they are “inalienable,” meaning they are so intimately connected to one’s nature as a human being that they cannot be transferred to another even if one consents to do so.  This is powerful stuff."

It is powerful stuff, and should be basic knowledge, especially in the USA.

Two shares in a row... Sorry. But I do like Carmina Burana, and this was cool.

I never thought I'd see a Flashmob performance of Carmina Burana. Neat.

Like this one.

Oh, patron saint of of all that is hot and geeky. Give me the strength to meet today's word goal instead of watching the Duck game, the serenity to focus on the plot when I what I really want to do is watch the Duck game, and the wisdom to know that the DVR will still have today's Duck game in its memory banks when I'm finished.

This is quite the juxtaposition of articles. Note that the "young mother" in each article is the same person.
Personally, I tend to side with the commentators from the first article. though I suppose we don't know what actually happened.

Heh.

This is one of the many reasons why I love my Dad!  Check out what he sent me via email..

*The owner of this back yard added each piece of this contraption slowly; so that when the squirrel learned one section and got the nuts, he added another section.*

Finally, it ended with what you see on the video! It took place over two-weeks to get to this point.
