Angela, great post! I feel like I'm thinking differently. I think this could be the biggest story in health care in the past year, a tooth sensor that tracks what you eat and drink: http://www.scoop.it/t/patient/p/4005822795/tooth-sensor-tracks-eating-drinking-smoking-habits-with-93-8-accuracy

We don't have a health care problem in this country, we just eat and drink way too much. If we can track that accurately, lot of behavior will change, just ask anyone who's used a fitbit or fuel band. Just the mere act of quanifying and giving feedback has large effects on daily activities.

Thank you, +Leonard Kish ! Great info! I will add it to my QS resource list I am compiling. That is another question I will be talking about in the series – sensors, and the difference between active and passive tracking. :)

My comment:
Silicon Valley has had decades to solve health care. This isn’t a new problem, nor a technological one. Technology’s always been available, just not an economic context in which it could really do any good. Technology works best when the goals of users, buyers and partner are aligned. EHRs suck because they’ve always been about billing, not clinical care (built for buyers, not users). Experiences are sh***y because patients don’t have the data or the economic freedom to comparison shop, so no basis for competition.
ACA has begun to change these things, and it’s creating massive opportunity, but let’s not call it Silicon Valley saving anything. Silicon Valley follows the money, and when the money is aligned with outcomes, they’ll do their part, as they always do.

My latest. Let me know what you think, and how we should navigate DTC testing going forward.

Great insights from Shahid on what's real and what's not in health care innovation and mobile health.
