Automatic Directory Listing Service

I'm not alone in being highly suspicious of this latest offering from a well known Directory. Their new automatic listing idea for the sum of £420 pa (inc VAT) purports to centrally add business listings to hundreds of business directories - in one hit. This is done via a control panel. It also enables subscribers to add posts to Social Media accounts with just a couple of clicks. And voila - high listings in Google ... at a massive cost!

Warning To All Website Owners.

Google announced in September that it intends to mark non-secure pages with a warning triangle. It means that if your website does not have an SSL certificate - provided by your website host - visitors to your website will probably leave it as soon as the warning flashes up.

"SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organisation's details. When installed on a web server, it activates the green padlock and the https protocol and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser."

The extra cost to website owners to implement the certificate varies wildly but one of the cheapest big providers is Go-Daddy who are currently offering this at £43.99 per site per year.

I'm happy to say that my price for this service is just £30pa

A friend of mine Skyped me from Spain the other day and suggested that I make some sort of public protest about large companies that offer free online website building.

He’d just heard from a friend who’d been caught out by a very well-known company – with a very unexpected bill.

I know it’s hackneyed – but if you’re offered something for free – you can be sure that there’s bound to be a catch. No one gives stuff away for free. Read more about what can easily become a nightmare on my blog:

I've written an article about the plague that is these SEO companies or agencies that populate your inbox if you're a website owner. You'll also read wise words of advice from Google on the subject.

Please take a look - I hope it's of use and reassurance. https://gethynjones.com/blog/why-you-shouldnt-believe-the-promises-of-seo-companies/

Top Tips For Writing Effective Web Content

Many people fall into the trap of writing web content to be read like a book or magazine article. Wrong.

I come from the world of broadcasting and it's been hugely valuable to me in my incarnation as a Hampshire web designer. One of the basics in being an effective broadcaster is to be yourself and imagine that you're talking to just one person person - not thousands. Talk informally and make full use of the apostrophe!

When people first visit a website they're probably after basic information and not wanting to read about the ins and outs of your business model and your inside leg measurement.

Your website visitors will initially want just a couple of things: Does your website show what they’re looking for? And can they find it quickly? .......
