Born in Regina, Sask Oct 1931-moved to Vancouver in April 1934 when I was three years old. Family: George and Agnes Thiele, brother Frank, then me, then Jerome (Jerry), Gordie (George Gordon) who passed away at 20 mo. in June 1941, and sister Doreen.
We had happy upbringing in Kitsilano. Running down the hill to the beach carrying just a towel and bathing suit, hungrily smelling fish and chips but not affording to buy, except when Mom and Daddy were with us, smelting at Kits beach with the family, living on Dad's fishing boat the "Halsid" in summer months at Bedwell Bay and Belcarra Park. Playing accordion with brother Frank (violin), cousin Lorraine Bilesky (piano) and friend Frank Miller (drums) for St. Joseph's Church,Steveston monthly dances. Performed in Frank Scott's Service Shows; in 1945 a 3 months tour of all military camps in BC (became fond of the pianist, Dave Brown at 14 years of age. Worked at HBC as donut maker and cashier at 16. In 1950 at 18 entered the convent, the Sisters of St. Ann, taught school, in BC. Met Dave Brown again in 1974, left the convent and married Dave July 5, 1975. Looked after Mum Brown for three years at 7020 Ontario St, resumed teaching again at St. Patrick's Secondary, at St. Augustine's School 1982 - 92, living in South Van until 1996 when we moved to Walnut Grove, Langley, BC.
