Just blogged about a mix I did filled with records from the early days of house music. Part one of two, with the second to follow soon...

Hello again, everyone! Welcome to the second of a three-part series where I dig through the vaults of DJs and house music producers 95 North and put them in the mix. It really is that simple. Many thanks to everyone who listened to the first mix, and special thanks to Richard Payton who promoted it on 95 North’s official Facebook page, his own personal one and on Soundcloud. I’ve been overwhelmed by the reaction, and thanks to everyone who listened and got in touch.

Part 2 below contains 25 tracks, with the full tracklist is on my blog. (link below) The divide between tracks and remixes is about 50/50 in this one, with music produced between 1992 and 2012 featured. This mix contains a few hard-to-find gems, including “Change The Beat”, a white label remix of a Stevie Wonder track, a disco house version of “Alright” by Mijan Owens, and some of their early records, many of which proved so illusive that I had to source them from Richard Payton personally.

Like the first mix, this one is recorded live in one take - in this case, on a wet and windy Friday afternoon - and much like the first one, it contains the occasional, shall we say, imperfection. The records are sourced from a combination of Traxsource, old vinyl records, CDs, Richard Payton and a USB by an old friend of mine.

Once again, feel free to let me know what you think, and buy the music if you like it.

Tracklistings for all three mixes are available here: http://amateuratplay.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/history-of-house-95-north-edition.html

Hello again. I'm back with another mix, this time going back nearly three decades. This mix is the first of two dedicated to the early days of house music, just as it was starting to really kick off around 1987.

If you were around back then, I hope you enjoy the selection. If you weren’t – and as I was just three years old at the time, it could be argued I wasn’t either – then here’s a collection of records that were around at that time. Let me know what you think via all the usual methods – leave a comment here, click the Like button on Facebook, share it so other people can hear it, etc etc.

Part 2 is coming very soon. Make sure you don't miss it by following me...

Here's my first mix under the Amateur At Play name. It's the first of three - yes, THREE - tribute mixes I'm doing, filled with DJ and production duo 95 North's tracks and remixes. Over 100 minutes of music from 1992 to 2003 features in this one, including a very special treat - an unreleased version of "Shattered Love", as sung by Janice Franklin, provided to me by none other than Richard Payton himself. The Caffeine Mix features here - the Metro Mix will feature at a later date.

This mix is recorded live in one take, and as such, isn't completely perfect. I'm not a fan of digital mixing or editing things out - not knocking those that do, it's just not my thing. One or two beats getting out of line isn't a bad thing, and keep your fingers away from the SYNC button!

Let me know what you think! The other two mixes are coming soon, and if you have any requests, drop them in the comments and I'll see what I can do!
