A nervy balance of and dark indie pop and rapturous, scruffy soul Golden Curtain’s Dream City confirms that this New Zealand outfit may very well be one of the very best bands on the planet. Following up their flawless debut English Tuning, Golden Curtain’s new long player is thoughtful and riveting work that’s relentlessly rewarding with each successive listen. Singer Andrew McKenzie (Grand Prix) is one of the few singers around with real pres...

It’s been three years since the last Kooks’ LP. 2011’s Junk of the Heart found the Luke Pritchard-led quartet experimenting with strings (“Time Above the Earth”), electronica (“Taking Pictures of You”), and reggae (“Runaway”), but the rest of the record held true to the tried-and-true sounds of their mega-hit records, Konk (2008) and Inside In/Inside Out (2006). While Junk received mix reviews from critics and fans alike, it demonstrated The Kook...

The days get longer. Twilight stands lazily, stretches, and its fingers graze the eight o’clock hour. Temperatures build their reserves for next month’s takeover of the upper reaches of the thermometer. Still some traveling to do, yes, but summer approaches from the south. And this year it sends a harbinger, an EP that hints at those long evenings on the patio, the cookouts and Coronas, the trips down the river. This year summer has an emissary: ...

The inimitable Robert Smith is one of my true heroes. The man can write hooky pop songs as terrific as “Just Like Heaven” and “Boys Don’t Cry” and create albums filled with epic, distorted dirges like Pornography, which sound like depression feels. Disintegration, along with James Joyce, taught me how to be introspective when I was in high school and college. But I’ve loved Robert just as much for his ever-shifting music as for the simple fact th...

The Baseball Project – the indie rock supergroup consisting of Steve Wynn of The Dream Syndicate, Scott McCaughey of The Young Fresh Fellows and The Minus Five, Linda Pitmon, and Mike Mills and Peter Buck of R.E.M. – is on a winning streak. Filled with strong hooks and some truly great baseball poetry, their most recent album, 3rd, is yet another infectious delight for any fan of power pop and the national pastime. A record that combines terrific...

Avril Lavigne’s new video for her brand new single “Hello Kitty” seems to indicate there are some major problems in the Lavigne camp. The song is awful, the video is bizarre (and more than vaguely racist), and Lavigne looks and sounds completely out of touch. CITC is wondering what’s happened to the Canadian singer. Thoughts?

Soundgarden’s Superunknown celebrated its 20th anniversary last month and the legendary album is now about to get a proper reissue on June 2. Set to be released in two exclusive formats replete with recordings of rehearsals, demos and long-sought after b-sides, the extensive bonus material is sure to provide some sonic insight about the recording of this now-classic album. The Seattle band just released a demo version of “Black Hole Sun” on their...

Some records press at you via the sheer force of dynamics, coming at you like feral jinns out of a dark and wooly wilderness. Some records press at you with a kind of ecstatic grandeur, presented by artists that may well be in their own version of a Sufian trance, firewalking into our heart. Some records press at you by the strength of their verdant imaginations, rife with vines and dancing snakes of coiled melody, with thatched arrangements that...

CITC’s Photo Editor Geoff Tischman caught the Amos Lee show the other night at the Capital Theatre in New York. Supporting his new album Mountains Of Sorrow, Rivers Of Song, Lee was in fine form. Armed with soulful precision and  poetic finesse, Lee’s set proved why he’s one of the greatest American songwriters around.

Story
Introduction

I’m currently in the process of wrapping three majors at UWSP in Computer Information Systems (CIS), Web and Digital Media Development (WDMD), and Philosophy with emphasis in Religious Studies. Currently, I am a VB.NET programmer at Sentry Insurance, Social Media dude for Planet Label, and computer, social media, and web guy at the Stevens Point Brewery.

I specialize in .NET and the Adobe Flash platform, but also love HTML/CSS, JavaScript/AJAX, PHP, and SQL, to name a few. I have an appreciation for the design side of the web, too, and content management systems such as Joomla or Wordpress.

When I am not developing or designing, you can catch me reading about Comparative Religion, Philosophy, Physics, and the occasional fairy tale or two. I also love going to concerts.
