A couple of weeks ago, Lisa Schmidt of ThePracticingCatholic.com joined us on the Around the Table Food Show to talk about a new initiative she is taking on this Lent: Soup & Stories. Lisa and Joel Schmidt are the husband and wife blogging team behind ThePracticingCatholic.com.

In addition to the regular roles of husband/wife and father/mother, Joel is currently preparing to be ordained to the permanent diaconate and Lisa is determined to master the art of soup preparation this Lent. Listen to the show to get the inside scoop: http://catholicfoodie.com/lent-soup-and-stories-with-the-practicing-catholics

Pescado al Horno for #NoMeat Fridays in #Lent – The following recipe comes from CRS Rice Bowl. It is a traditional preparation of tilapia from the Philippines. It makes a wonderful Friday Lenten meal for the family gathered around the table. You can find the recipe by clicking this link: http://catholicfoodie.com/pescado-al-horno-for-nomeat-fridays-in-lent

"I Hate Beans!" Seriously. That was my slogan when I was a kid. I remember those evenings when family dinners ended with me sitting at the table alone with a small serving on beans on my plate. I can still hear my mom saying, "You're not getting up until you eat your beans." Thankfully, our taste buds and our palates develop as we get older! This common (and delicious) dish from Guatemala makes an excellent Lenten meatless meal. This recipe for Frijoles Volteados (Spanish for Tossed Beans) makes mealtime quick and easy, using Black Beans. Get the #recipe here: http://catholicfoodie.com/frijoles-volteados-recipe-from-guatemala-and-crs-rice-bowl

Pasta al Tonno e Pomodoro (Pasta with Tuna and Tomato) for St. Joseph's Day! There is no meat on a St. Joseph’s Altar. But here in south Louisiana, where no-meat Fridays are a welcome excuse to indulge in our abundant local seafood, there's no way we're settling for just a marinara sauce. No way. Here’s a great dish to celebrate St. Joseph’s Day: http://catholicfoodie.com/pasta-al-tonno-e-pomodoro-for-st-josephs-day

There is only one week left in Lent, which makes tomorrow is our last Friday of abstinence from meat. Next Friday is Good Friday, which is a day of fasting and abstinence. Tomorrow try Chef John Besh’s recipe for Pasta Milanese, which is made with anchovy filets. The recipe is here: http://catholicfoodie.com/pasta-milanese-by-chef-john-besh

Comfort food. There's something amazingly wonderful about comfort food... even when you are abstaining from meat on a Friday in Lent. And this meatless Chile Rellenos recipe using Hatch Chiles is comfort food at its best. Find the full recipe here: http://catholicfoodie.com/hatch-green-chile-rellenos-recipe

The Catholic Foodie... Where food meets faith!
Introduction
The Catholic Foodie brings much more to the table than merely recipes and reviews. The show highlights how food - good food - can be a sign to us of God’s love and care for each of us and our families. The tagline, "where food meets faith," speaks volumes about the importance of family, which is so often developed around the kitchen table.
