Laurent Fabius wanted to revitalize the traditional Ambassadors’ Conference by opening it up more to the public, businesses and the media this year.

In addition to the internal work sessions, “Ambassadors’ Week,” which is due to start on Monday, August 24, will include several innovative events:

- Monday, August 24: meeting between the ambassadors and the public
- Tuesday, August 25: first “speed-dating” event ever held in France between ambassadors and entrepreneurs
- Wednesday August 26: a one-day event dedicated to preparing for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference to be attended by Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General

Anyone can follow and participate in the week’s events on the France Diplomatie website or through the ministry’s social networks using the hashtag ‪#‎SemaineAmbass‬!

World Humanitarian Day!

France welcomes the adoption yesterday in New York of a UN Security Council Presidential Statement in support of a political transition process in Syria under the auspices of Staffan de Mistura, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General.

The adoption of this text signals, for the first time in two years, the consensus of the Security Council and its five permanent members on the need to establish a transitional government with full executive powers, in accordance with the principles of the Geneva Communiqué.

Laurent Fabius: "I utterly condemn the bombing by the Damascus regime of the main market in the city of Douma, on the outskirts of the Syrian capital. The provisional toll is appalling, with almost 100 people dead and hundreds injured, including women and children.

This barbaric act again reflects the inhumanity of a regime that has no qualms about slaughtering its own people."

Our innovative network in Chad!

Unlike other cities in Chad which each embody a special identity, N’Djamena is a migration crossroads of populations and ethnic groups. Yet one cannot fail to observe that the capital city is a place where people rarely live together.
This situation is a legacy of the 1979 conflicts and it persists today although peace has been restored.

Since 2013, the French Institute in Chad (IFT) has been implementing a large-scale programme called “N’Djamena, an observatory of the national psyche". It aims to pool skills (cultural institutions, artists, researchers and elected officials) to gain insight into what may cement the national identity and then help restore N’Djamena’s identity.
