While everyone is talking about Chevy's bad ignition switches, has anyone had their valve stem snap of while filling a tire? My wife's 2009 Dodge Journey has had 2 fail. Thank G_d she wasn't driving on the highway.

Better insurance through the ACA...peeps are entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts.

At long last: Obamacare!

Yes, after an epic struggle with healthcare.gov, I finally have an ACA-approved health insurance plan, going into effect tomorrow. My previous coverage was an individual plan for which I paid directly, so I have a fair basis for comparison.

What I have:

✓ Lower deductible.
✓ Lower out-of-pocket limit.
✓ Lower copays.
✓ No “coinsurance” on ER service or hospital stays.
✓ Lower prescription costs.
✓ Free eye exams (I didn’t have vision coverage before).
✓ All my current health care providers and local hospitals still “in-network”.
Lower monthly premiums.

The new policy is better in every way. There is no downside.

Now, it wasn’t easy. I’ve been trying to get this done since October. I’ve been through the application process so many times that I memorized it. I abandoned multiple accounts and started over. I spent hours on the phone getting errors resolved. I considered giving up; it was frustrating and demoralizing. I’m not here to extoll the virtues of healthcare.gov – but, in the end, I got better coverage for less money.

Oh, in addition to my new insurance card, you know what else I got in the mail this month? A Medicaid card. That’s right: healthcare.gov mistakenly enrolled me in Medicaid, despite the fact that I didn’t ask for it and don’t qualify for it. Apparently I am not alone. Even Senator Rand Paul said it happened to his son; he flashed his son’s shiny new Medicaid card on television to demonstrate how broken the exchange is.

I invite you to imagine how difficult it is to get un-enrolled from Medicaid when you never qualified to be on Medicaid in the first place. I still haven’t managed it. I did get through on the phone to a woman who had heard my story so many times she didn’t need me to finish it – but, in true bureaucratic fashion, transferred me to an office that was closed.

So, when I see the scare stories about how many Obamacare enrollees are ending up on Medicaid, I don’t believe them. The exchange is putting people on it by mistake.

But it’s also getting people better health insurance, so that’s something.
