There's a reason why this place is fairly cheap, compared to other places nearby. The beds were clean and the water for showers was hot. However, there appears to be about fifty years (I'm not exaggerating) of deferred maintenance. The halls have low ceilings, with holes. really bad paint job in rooms and hallways. There were no fire sprinklers, but there did appear to be some smoke detectors. I checked out the emergency exits just in case. The main elevator was out of order the whole week I was there, which meant I had to go down a series of really long hallways to get to my room. If I'd not been fully able bodied, it would have been a BIG problem. The a/c in the room barely works and made lots of noise. Fortunately, I could open the window and it was not hot outside. The hotel is in a borderline kind of neighborhood, which did not bother me at all, but it could be a problem for some. Quite a few panhandlers around. The same neighborhood however did have some good and fairly inexpensive restaurants. And there are many liquor stores! There were some small ants in the room, even though I did not have any food with me.
