I'm a trumpet player. After playing a Bb trumpet for 10 years, I started playing C trumpet. Pitched one step higher, but the same basic fingerings.
The weird thing is, all my muscle memory AND pitch memory were programmed so that when I pushed this valve, tightened my lips this much, and blew this hard, then a particular note would come out. When I did the same thing on the C trumpet, a note a step higher would come out. I would instantly try to bring the pitch down by habit.
It was VERY weird.
On top of that, I ended up reading Bb music on the C trumpet, so I would look at, for example, the first line on a treble clef staff, which would normally be 1st and 2nd valves pushed down, but to the get the correct pitch (E), I'd have to play a D on the C trumpet, which required pushing 1st and 3rd valves down. Quite a mind bender.
On top of that, I also played both in the same day, sometimes back to back.
I feel your pain.
