I've had nothing but good experiences at Ibex. The staff is friendly, the equipment is well-maintained, and the crowd they draw tends towards the friendly and helpful. I've had perfect strangers show up below me and start cheering me on and coaching me on what holds to go for. It's a great place for beginners too. They offer classes that will take a raw beginner and get them on the wall in 30 minutes. You don't even pass the class until you do one supervised climb. And the courses truly are for everyone. They are helpfully organized going around the walls of the building with easiest at one end and hardest at the other. So you won't be left behind, but you can still be challenged. And the staff is always available to answer questions or check your knots and set up. Overall- it's my favorite place in KC for climbing. It's more encouraging and instills a love of climbing more than any other place I've been. -Not a shill, just an honestly satisfied climber and customer.

I lead trad sport and am in the gym 4~5 a week usually with my son and friends. I've climbed at gyms on both the East and West Coast, and around Boulder / Golden. I've been to Ibex maybe 10 sessions visiting family in KC. The routes are not bad as far as the setting goes and in terms of ratings stiffer than the West coast but a little soft for gyms I climb at East Coast--though my gym has stiffer reputation than others. The gym is a decent size with a good bouldering area and problems have been set well. There's a mix of slab and overhung features. THere are also some fun dihedral and chimney features and some crack. I'm certainly happy that Kansas City has a solid climbing community. I've traveled and run into smaller less interesting, less well organized gyms. I'm surprised sometimes by how much setting varies from gym to gym and ratings. Lead certs and practices on rope and gear also vary, and are largely directed by the insurance and underwriters requirements. Most gyms I lead at supply rope and prohibit use of your own rope. That naturally varies especially in California, in my experience. Staff has been a mix of friendly when I've been there, which is going to be the case at any gym. Kent has been there everytime I've been and has a sharp eye, which is the most important when it comes to risk management. My family lives up in North Town KC so Ibex is a nice spot to hit when I'm back home in Kansas visiting.

They were fantastic! We went with a friend of mine and her husband as a birthday get together for her husband and we had a blast. This is great fun for the family. You do have to take a quick learning course if you haven't done something like this before but was very easy to catch on to. This is great family fun for both small kids to older adults and people of all different levels of experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Seriously don't miss out on this, it was so much fun!

Ibex is a great climbing gym. Lots of routes that are constantly changing. Prices are pretty good for a climbing gym. One thing to change is Friday hours, my friends and I always go to a rival gym as the Friday hours do not allow us to go for our Friday night activity.

Hey Noah! Thanks for the rocking review, just so you know we are recently changing our policies which will allow us to stay open Monday-Friday until 10pm!

We have been several times with both Boy and Girl Scouts. They are organized. The staff is very friendly and work well with kids of all ages. They take pride in their facility and this fascinating sport. They have always worked with us when we added last minute kids. The walls have many levels of challenge so all levels of ability can have fun. Keep up the great work!

Great group of people running this place. We do an annual evening climbing session for our Boy Scout Troop and Venture Crew so we have quite an age range of youth and adults that participate. They do an excellent job of instruction for safety, and then turning loose the kids to climb and have a blast. It is always a VERY quiet car ride home afterwards because the youth are just worn out tired from the physical activity. I enjoy watching the kids challenge themselves as they gain confidence and skill. Some of them dig deep and refuse to give up until they conquer a tougher climb....that in a nutshell is what I try to bring out in our scouts and venture crew...that sense of mental toughness.

The facility is clean, the staff is helpful and the routes are challenging. -Bouldering wall-great way to develop and hone technique without needing a belay. Develop finger and limb strength with plenty of padding to challenge your reach and learn from your mistakes. It's a great option to climb when you don't have someone with you. -The routes have many features to challenge many levels of climb. The only drawback to me was the height of the routes. This limits the ability to challenge your stamina. An alternative to this is to climb clean as quickly as possible and to only utilize a certain color of handhold. Rock gyms are the next best thing to the real thing. Climate controlled with amenities nearby (hotel next door and restaurants within walking distance), this facility offers a lot. It has a great location (off of I-70 and Route 7) and is a great place to challenge your physical abilities and enjoy yourself. Other than the height of the building, the only thing I would change is another location more centrally located. Tell your friends. This place saves you the trip to Arkansas and offers great fun in a local place. My wife and I need to go more often.

I am a total beginner at rock climbing. The staff has been amazing about help, answering all my questions, guiding me in climbing directions, offering assistance while climbing. I couldn't ask for a better place to start and grow.
