Im thinking about starting an awareness campaign about the Craft of Crochet.

I'm a fan of Real Time with Bill Maher and watch when I can. While I sometimes don't agree with everything he says, I find him to be funny and entertaining.
The final season episodes' "New Rules" is an example of those moments. He proclaimed that if a gift was handcrafted or made with yarn, that he didn't want it. He would rather get a garbage bag to throw all that shit away.
Now, I understand where he's coming from and see the humor in his statement. I mean, I've seen some shoddy craftsmanship out there on the market or what Micheal Kors would call on Project Runway, "Holly Hobby"

However, there are a lot of serious artisans out there who have been dedicated to not only upholding this centuries' old, historical craft but to also elevating it into an artform. I'd like to think I'm one of those people.
I've been doing this practically all my life with a strong focus on it for the past 8 years now. There is pride and love in the heirloom quality and craftsmanship of what I make and I've been lucky to attain some income from doing something I love and enjoy.
Did you know, that unlike "knits" there is NO machine on the planet today that can replicate Crochet? None. So if you see something crocheted in a store, best believe it was made by hand. I guess it's like the "Bently of Yarned Crafts"

So in hopes to create awareness, I was thinking of rounding together a bunch of us Crochet artists and bombarding Bill Maher mailbox with handmade crochet items. Hats, scarves, gloves, etc. to send a message that this is a historical craft, people rely on it for income and that there is no need to devalue yet another form of the human existence because it wasn't made by a machine.
If this becomes successful and Bill Maher is drowned in yarned items, he can ultimately donate it to the homeless, foodbanks or some other charity of his choice.

Idk. Just a thought.

I'm all for an awareness campaign for crochet and for hand crafted goods, not sure how I can help from overseas though. Can't afford to waste resources and money on sending items that won't be used or respected I'm afraid. I'm happy to try other ways
