I spotted one of the owl parents in the tree next to the one with the owl house, standing daytime guard. Things are proceeding space with the owl family. :)

(Taken with my phone camera, since that's what I had with me when I was out checking on the chickens and thought to look for any visible owls.)

The Owl Family 2017!

I had suspected that the owls were in the owl house for the past few weeks, but they remained elusively out of sight and the owl house camera is having technical difficulties this year. (I'll need to repair that after the new owlets have moved out.) But yesterday while I was home for lunch I peeked outside and noticed Mama Owl sitting there in the door of the house dozing in her guard position. I grabbed my camera and went out to snap a shot to share with you all. I'm excited to report visible activity for 2017, and look forward to meeting a new batch of owlets soon.

The Balanced Sword

I've been doing acro yoga recently, which not coincidentally involves hanging out with other people who do acro yoga. Some of us were playing at a local outdoor market, and I asked these two if they'd be willing to do so with the sword. They thought it was an excellent idea, and we came up with a pose that worked well with it. As a lucky bonus I even got a little Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe action going on with the pair on the next set of mats.

Hey, I put comments on this on YouTube, but apparently they didn't carry over to Google+ when it posted it here. This is a short flow I made up going from Throne to Reverse Throne on Hands and back again. I call it Circle of Thrones. I'm still quite enjoying Acro Yoga!

Sword Art. Online.

This past weekend I attended the Anime Overload convention here in Austin. (Technically this year the venue was in Round Rock, but that's neither here nor there.) I had a fine time and got pictures of lots of interesting people, and briefly met one of the featured guests, +Xanthe Huynh. She a voice actor for a lot of anime shows, including Sword Art Online, hence my oh so clever title for this particular sword post.

Toward the end of the convention I encountered her in passing in the hallway and made brief and hopefully polite fanboy conversation, and then wished that I'd asked her to pose for this collection. Fortunately I ran across her again a little bit later, and had the opportunity to do so. She was super nice about it, and kind enough to wait while I hurried out to my car to get the sword. We got a shot, she headed on her way, and I'm grateful to have another fine addition for the Traveling Sword.

New Acro Flow

I just finished a five week beginner acro yoga class last week, and all the pieces we learned over the course of the class fit together into this flow. The video is from last Friday evening, when two of us practiced the flow until we were able to get through it all. It's not the prettiest execution ever, but we managed to do it! I'm having a lot of fun with acro yoga, and looking forward to the next series.

Here's Another Acro Yoga Thing

My acro yoga adventures are continuing. This flow is called Swimming Mermaid, and the video is only the second or third time we made it through successfully. It's quite gratifying to work at something and finally get it. :)

Here's Something I've Been Doing

I've been taking a five week beginning acro yoga class, and this was the last week. Each week we learned a different position, and this week we put them all together into this flow, which is called Four-step. This class has been a lot of fun and I plan on continuing to practice acro yoga. Overall if you'd told me five weeks ago that I'd be doing this, I don't know if I would have believed you. I look forward to looking back at this a year from now and seeing how bad I was back at the start, but at the moment I'm pretty proud of this.

Another Year Of Owls

The owlets have now fledged, and unfortunately this year I wasn't able to spot them after they had left the house, so I don't have any pictures of them out in the world. This year has been notably wet, with lots of storms and otherwise rainy evenings, so overall I didn't have as many opportunities to get out and take pictures. Combined with the failure of the owl-cam partway through the process, this has been a fairly light observation year. On the plus side, I'm happy to have seen yet another round of baby owls be born, grow, and leave the nest to make their way in the world. It's always a pleasant experience. (Except when bees invade the house, of course. I hope to avoid that one in the future.) So I leave you all with one more picture from this year, of the last feeding time that I managed to get pictures from.

I look forward to next year's babies, and hopefully it'll work out that I have the owl cam working for the whole event. I'll be sure to keep you all updated with any improvements I make in the off season.

Mama And Papa Owl Before The Photo Shoot

As near as I can tell the owlets have fledged now, but I'm going to give it a couple more days before I go up the ladder and check the house, just in case. Unfortunately it's easy to miss them doing so, as they're naturally inclined to be hard to spot. On the other hand, I dug around and found one or two more things from the past week or so. This is a short video I took one evening setting up to take pictures of feeding time with the owls. This is my first time uploading a video to a post, so hopefully this works okay. When I did so I got a message that the video was processing and people might not be able to see it right away. I'm waiting a few minutes to hit share, in hopes of it all working then, but if it doesn't you might try again in a little bit. Good luck!
