Michigan Man Commits Suicide After Holding a Standoff.

A business man who shot a police officer kept authorities unable to act for hours after finding a collection of high-powered rifles and other weapons before he eventually killed himself. Ricky Coley of West Bloomfield Township, Michigan was committing a potential suicide attempt when he shot Officer Pat O’Rourke on Sunday. The officer was responding to a possible suicide report. Fifteen families were removed from the neighborhood during the almost 20-hour standoff.

Coley was found dead Monday morning with a gunshot to the mouth. The officers were warned in advance of Coley’s collection of weaponry and gun firing, causing the standoff to take so long. Coley, 50, was said to have been a current military veteran allowing for him to have knowledge about weapons.

Coley, since being recently divorced, was forced to leave the home by Monday.  He also faced financial and legal turmoil, including a lawsuit from federal authorities. The U.S. Labor Department recently filed a lawsuit accusing Coley of mishandling money meant to cover employee insurance. West Bloomfield Township Officers had been called to Coley’s home about a month ago because he was reportedly suicidal.

Dan Arens - Strong Christian and Political Man

Dan is currently a sophomore at Jamestown College where he is majoring in Communications. He is originally from the small town of Osakis, Minnesota.

Q: Do you have any siblings?

A: "I have one brother who is a year younger than me. He is currently attending Moorhead State University. We have looked alike most of our lives which has caused many people to have a hard time telling us a part."

Q: What extra-curricular activities are you involved in at JC?

A: "I am involved in Ignition, Bible Study, which I am planning on starting my own possibly this year or next year. I'm also a part of the Young Republicans group where I served as the Secretary last year and I am also the Managing Editor for the Collegian and write the political column."

Q: Why do you go to Ignition?

A: "I go because I really love everything about it from the songs to the speakers. It's a great way to have a break from homework and the stress of college. I don't go to Ignition just to go, I go because I love worshiping God and being surrounded by fellow believers."

Q: What do you do in the Young Republicans Club?

A: "Last year I served as the Secretary for the Republicans Club. Being a part of the club has allowed me and the other members to meet a lot of the Republican Representatives from North Dakota which was really cool."

Q: What are some of your hobbies?

A: "I like to play Ultimate Frisbee as well as read and write. I am currently writing my own book."

Dan's passion for God and politics was very evident during the interview. Once he graduates he wants to write the political analysis column for a newspaper.
