Just finished listening to No Easy Day. The book was gripping, I definitely wanted to listen to it all the way through without stopping. I thought that the final raid wasn't as interesting as the rest of the book, mostly because I felt like I got a peak into an entirely different life.

The only big nitpick I have is that all of the accounts are when things went (pretty) well and how their training pulled them through a lot of tough situations. It left me with the impression that they never made really bad mistakes (shooting the wrong person, etc) which I find difficult to believe.

That being said, I can see why the author chose those particular missions, since they illustrated lessons they learned and he felt they could be written about safely. Overall I thought it was a great book.

It's pretty good. Worth watching, for sure.

Just finished listening to the Disappearing Spoon. Very cool book that talks a lot about the history, people and science of the elements. It seems like there is much more back stabbing than I would expect when a big prize is on the line. The one gripe I have about this book is chapter 10, where I feel like he goes on a tangent talking about experimental results of changing constants.

Would this count as a live performance by a band?

Only if you can't distinguish them from a real band :)

Interesting article on how Riot is trying to curb their apparently nasty user base.
Riot Games decided that just banning players wasn’t good enough.

I've never even tried it but it sure seems popular on reddit. I might check it out, though. It's free, yeah?

The guy that previously wrote "The Dry Valleys" a blog about visiting McMurdo station in Antarctica is doing a new one about going to the Russian station down there. Kind of cool to see pictures of such a remote place.

There are a lot of bloopers--the cast was always goofing off between (and during) takes, and you can hear the crew's frustration a couple of times.

The one I want to find is Michael Dorn narrating how he will kill Patrick Stewart--after every take on the bridge he would start saying "The King sits on his throne, not knowing of the plot on his life..." and ad-lib a story about how he kills Patrick with anything he could find.

How cork is made, pretty interesting to see pictures of the process. I wonder if they ever harvest cork from the trees that surround the UC Davis quad area.
