Basic Information
my experience today was extremely frustrating. i registered in advance on saturday so that i wouldn't have to wait when we arrived with my son who has extreme paranoia and anxiety. i had to re-do my registration and my son's appointment started 40 minutes late which gave him time for his anxiety to increase. my registration paperwork/chief complaint was gone over with me 3 different times by 3 different people. by the time my son had xrays and got into the dentists chair he was near hysterical. the practices lists that they are experienced with kids with disabilities. i listed that my son suffers from OCD and paranoia and might require restraint. the dentist repeatedly threatened my son that "mom will leave the room if you don't calm down" i don't understand how this could possibly be seen as a child friendly thing to say, especially to a kid who's clearly in distress. while she did try to allow him to see the mirror for the exam and say comforting things, there was too much long drawn out conversation and threats of consequences. at one point while i was trying to restrain my son so that she could examine his mouth while he was screaming at the top of his lungs nearly 5 adult staff (in addition to the dentist and the dental assistant) were standing around him staring at him. this felt horrible. i appreciate that its a kids dentist and the movies and decor and that they worked with me on payment scheduling for my elder son's braces but there are some kinks to work out in the process there.
