My Thoughts: Elements to Include in an Author's Website -

Home Page Crucial Elements - have as top menu items -

1. Current Release - the current book release with further information on where to get it, character's, links with other books etc

2. Back List / Books - previous books released, where to get them etc (no corny names for this, either. Make it easy to find). Include original publication date, re-release dates, and digital versions where possible. If out of print, suggest whether you are considering self-publishing or digital versions for keen readers. For a Series - put them into chronological order as a set.

3. Work in Progress/ Coming Next... - tell your readers what you are next working on (even if there is no contract on it at this point).

4. Author Info - many readers go to author's websites looking for this information and to get an understanding of the author's personality. Backlists and even coming soons can be gleaned off websites like Goodreads and publisher's info sheets. An Author's website should provide more. PLUS a Contact Me element - email address, contact form etc.

My Thoughts: Elements to Include in an Author's Website -

1. Character Links / Sketches

When characters are linked through a series, but don't necessarily appear in every book within that series, having a listing of what books they appear within would provide a path for readers.
Laura Griffen, a Romantic Suspense author, provides Character Sketches for her readers - http://www.lauragriffin.com/tracers.php#characters

My Choice: Best Author Websites -

Dan Brown - Author of 'The Da Vinci Code' - animated professional website (a little difficult to currently work out how to enter it from the starter splash page). Hidden depths of interesting games and information can be found at deeper levels inside the website.

My Choice: Best Author Websites -

Rick Riordans' 'Percy Jackson' series website - heavily animated with sound, but would appeal to the fans of this Olympian series. Some character profiles, and downloadable games and wallpapers.

Lesley M.M. Blume - Huffington Post columnist and book author - the website is heavily stylised (and some parts are difficult to read) but contains lots of content and is styled to support the author's themes.
