The upcoming version of Marble Maps on Android will add support for Public Transport Routes. Follow the course of bus, train, subway and tram lines easily thanks to highlighting using the same color as the transport operator. Street labels are augmented with route names to help differentiating busy routes. Are you interested in just a single bus line? It's also possible to highlight exactly that one. Just pick a station, platform, bus stop or anything else part of the route and activate the highlighting of your favorite public transport line.

Our latest public beta version of Marble Maps for Android is available from the Google Play store: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.kde.marble.maps

This release contains massive speed improvements in map rendering, and we're pretty close to a first stable release now. It will be a "German edition" with vector tiles in all zoom levels for Germany and support for German translations. More countries will follow soon after.

After a couple of alpha versions we are releasing a new public Beta of Marble Maps for Android today. New features are turn-by-turn navigation, support for bookmarks and information about places. Become a tester at https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.kde.marble.maps to install it on your Android device.

The default rendering is still bitmap tiles. If you want the pretty looks from the attached screenshot, read on in https://community.kde.org/Marble/TestingVectorOSM

We are heading for a beta release with vector maps enabled by default in one month, and a first stable release of Marble Maps in two months (mid September).

Count us in! We have a bunch of awesome tasks in mind for GCI 2015. Please forward this to any students age 13-17 who might be interested.
We have determined the 14 open source organizations that will be acting as mentoring orgs for Google Code-in 2015. These organizations are developing thousands of tasks that students will be able to choose from in categories including coding, documentation, outreach, research, training, user interface and quality assurance. Students will be able to register for the contest and start claiming and working on tasks when the contest begins Monday, December 7th.  Check out our blog post below and our contest site at g.co/codein for more details on each organization.

Students you will want to read up on the organizations to see what they do before you start with the contest in December.
