Selling to raise funds for memorial tribute to high school friend, KIA in Cambodia in 1970, and to cover tuition, fees, books, etc. for my graduate seminary studies, http://www.georgefox.edu/seminary/programs/dmin/sfs/index.html
For Sale by Original Owner Purchased new from Maple Street Guitars in Atlanta, GA (Buckhead) in 2003 for light casual practice while waiting for Martin to complete a different custom instrument. Soon put away after the custom guitar arrived a few weeks later. Very light play, faint wear on pick guard and a few tiny scratches and dings (see photos with the penny for scale). Some very faint skin-oil stain visible on the bass side of the lower bout...

Life on Cruise Control in the Cognitive Fast Lane ....
Here's the thing about cruise control: it's fine as long as the weather is nice and the roads are straight and dry and there's little traffic or none. It also helps if you're set no more than 10% above the legal speed limit, the vehicle is running smoothly, and there are no breakdowns, flat tires, etc. while you're disengaged if not actually asleep at the wheel. It's actually pretty nice, comfortable, even reassuring and relaxing ... un...

My latest blog post, prompted by a question on Quora ....
Quora question Atheists: Where do you stand in Plato's cave, and what are the other three groups of people from your perspective? As you can see in this picture, there are four kinds of people: * those watching shadows * those who understand shadows * those who are on the way out of the cave * those that are out of the cave My Answer I’m puzzled that the question is directed to atheists. The heart of the alleg...

In one important sense, the US Federal Government has already "Fallen" but it is not yet "Dead." For many decades, it has remained recursively trapped between pseudo-leadership determined within a closed-loop "Aristocracy" at one end and artificial life support via sheer "Bureaucracy" at the other. Repeated cycles and circuses of "Recriminations" (aka elections) drag our nation and us the people between those dead-ends year after year after year ....

The lifecycle curve at the link below is what I'm talking about. I don't think our government can or will find its own way out of this ongoing decline, and I think we're on the verge of breaking out to the downside when the debt bubble bursts, as it inevitably will. Only we the people can pull us back toward the "Prime" state of our Union on this lifecycle curve.

The problem is, I don't know how we can do that. More elections and 'changing it from the inside' clearly are not working. Does anyone have any serious ideas or suggestions beyond a rant or a bumper-sticker sound bite?

Philosophy tip for the day: many ideologies and philosophies roam the halls of academia, but neopositivist scientism runs the world.

Scientism is belief in the universal applicability of the scientific method and approach, and the view that empirical science constitutes the most "authoritative" worldview or the most valuable part of human learning - to the exclusion of other viewpoints.

Neopositivism (aka logical positivism) is a philosophy that holds to be meaningful only those propositions that can be analysed by the tools of logic into elementary propositions that are either tautological or are empirically verifiable. It therefore rejects metaphysics, theology, and sometimes ethics as meaningless.

Litmus-test your beliefs with this information from one of the best scientific minds of our time. Just how naked does the emperor have to be, and with how much hubris, before we take down the tyranny?
