I admit I'm a curmudgeon on this point and I'm going against the flow on this one.  I love using the tools, I agree that "culture change" is necessary, but I don't buy the concept of "social business." See "Who Cares if Business and Brands are "Social"?" http://www.ddmcd.com/managing-technology/who-cares-if-business-and-brands-are-social.html

The 8 Traits of  VC (draft)

What are the characteristics of a good VC or VC firm?  What do entrepreneurs look for?  I've interviewed a number of entrepreneurs and VCs, and here's 8 characteristics that I commonly hear:

1) Fund creation:  Reputation or network to obtain funding from investors who will grant VC firm capability to invest

2) Market Illumination: Able to see into the darkness and identify a new trend before others can.

3) Deal InFlow: Have a network of inbound startups, as well as ability to biz dev and connect with entrepreneurs they don't know.

4) Financing:  Ability to structure a deal, that meets needs of entrepreneur and investors

5) Closing Capability:  Skills, gusto, and perseverance to win a deal with an entrepreneur and get it closed.

6) Shepherding:  Advising and guiding startups by assisting with market illumination, advising on roadmap and go to market.

7) Deal Outflow: Again, here's where having a strong network is key, but not as deal flow as an inbound, but instead ability to connect startup with partners, media, conferences, brands, buyers and beyond.

8) Rational Exuberance.  No one wants to work with a stick in ye mud.  So having fun attracts those that want to have fun, building not just a lifestyle of wealth for those around you, but having fun while doing the fund.
