Alternate Level of Care (ALC) is a key plank in Saskatchewan's efforts to reduce Emergency Department waits and improve patient flow across the health system. The term ALC refers to patients who are in a hospital bed but no longer require the intensity of care provided in an acute care hospital. These patients are “ready for care elsewhere.” This short video explains how ALC fits within the broader, provincial Emergency Department Waits and Patient Flow Initiative, and how data about Alternate Level of Care will be collected and used.
