I actually kind of like it because it saves me time by only having to read one half the screen!

I alternate the sides and hope that given enough samples I may be able to read all posts :-)

But seriously, didn't know it till I used the desktop version instead of the app. Yeah, it's weird.

Logged into #googleplus  to find the #googleplusupdate  just now. It's so, so awful, from chat not working to fonts not rendering on Chrome to the two column content layout to pages of updated privacy setting stuff.

Only works on the stream (and then wastes a ton of screen space).

All of the communities and other pages are still multi-column. So far the best people have been able to figure out is to put google+ into screen-reader mode.

Baton Rougians, check out this concert this weekend. The Last Bison is a band from here in Virginia, and I liked them quite a bit last time I saw them play.

Mathematical smilies

Because sometimes the standard ones just aren't geeky enough!

Edited to add:  For those who don't get it or are stuck on what these mean, shown below.  With spoiler space, for those who prefer to figure it out on their own.

Easiest to use the explanation offered by +Patrick Ryan in the comments below:

Following down the left side column we have inverse, square, cube, sine (sign), and log. Right side's a little more complicated.

The first one is "real" - when applied to a complex number - that is, one with real and imaginary (designated by some factor times "i") parts - you take the real component only and drop the imaginary component. i.e. You drop the i's (eyes). "Imag" (imaginary) is the converse of "real", so that would be only the i's.

The inverted triangle is a math operator called "grad", and it takes the gradient of a function. When applied to a vector - and we know it's a vector because of the cross product operator - it's known as the "curl".

Then finally, we have "root".

Yeah, I know - if you have to explain it, it's not funny.

Photo Share: The two matching detector systems in Jefferson Lab's Experimental Hall A sit side-by-side just behind the empty target stand. During experiments, particles that exit to the left or right of the target are swept up into one of the wide openings of the detectors. Electrons that do not interact with the target continue to travel through the central pipe and into a beam dump.

I was looking up info on the vocalist, and it turns out they just released a real album yesterday.

It's actually really good, regardless of the Archer connection!

I sort of can't get over the fact that Facebook tried multi-column and gave up on it because it didn't work, leading to a spate of articles praising it for being more like google+ in its single-columnness... and then google+ surprisingly goes multicolumn?

Not only is it repeating Facebook's mistake after Facebook learned better; it's doing so after explicit praise for the single-column feature!

Bizarre times we live in...

Edit: oh, apparently the thing to do is tag with #changeitback

+Kevin Carney is one of those people for whom challenging of his perspective is equivalent to trolling. To double down on that foolishness, he deletes posts where he has been challenged.

Just saying.

Closed mindedness and intolerance are sad vices to have.

In my mind a smear isn't just not neutral but rather negative and without basis. In this case it is with cause that I say something negative about the guy.

Read for free: our interactive graphic on building the UK’s biggest warships

On a windswept patch of land a half-hour drive from Edinburgh, one of Europe’s biggest and most intricate manufacturing projects is taking shape.
HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales are the biggest warships ever built for the UK’s Royal Navy, with each ship having the capacity to transport 40 aircraft. Explore the Queen Elizabeth in our interactive graphic:
