Another achievement of the rapidly growing and vibrant #GDG  India program. With 41 chapters - from Guwahati to Gujarat and Kashmir to Kerala, India now has the distinction of highest number of #GDG  chapters in a given country (though this may be short lived as USA is a close second).

This only goes to demonstrate incredible hard-work and passion demonstrated by all #GDG   organizers and the community members in India. Congrats to all of you!

Goa Android User Group in association with the INTENSA Council of the Goa Engineering College, on 8th February 2012 organized the first Google Developer Devfest for women only. The event which was held in the IT department auditorium, was attended by all girl students and faculties. The event started with Jonathan Pereira, from the Google Developers Group explaining the concept of DevFest for Women. He emphasised the support extended by Google communities to the empowerment of women in our society.

There was an online hangout session with Uttam Tripathi from Google
Google. He was very pleased with the response of the students. He concluded that they should make efforts to create a platform for them in the society.

Chelly Gray, who is the group head of GDG Singapore, then took a session on Online Security for girls. She shared some of the must-do and must-not in the online environment. She emphasised that girls should protect their online identity to prevent misuse.

The next session was by Hasiba Amin, State President of the National Students’ Union of India. She detailed out the problem faced by women in Goa. She enlisted the root causes of the issues and pointed out that they all went back to the mind-set of the society. She discussed the various customs prevalent in our society which hinder the development of women. She made them aware of the laws and provisions envisioned to protect them against any crime. She also aroused the girls to stand and fight for their rights. She suggested a women cell in every educational institute to protect the girls from any anti-social elements.

Mr.Prajyot Mainkar, Head GDG Goa Android User Group made interactions with the crowd making them aware of trends and developments in world of android, along with mentions about GAUG activities.

Thanks to the GAUG event manager, Ms.Arya Padte who kept the crowd interested in various games and activities and Google Swags were handed over to winners who answers the Google related questions.
