Im currently working with BackboneJS memory management. What a timely post.
JavaScript, as specified by the ECMAScript Standard, does not leak memory. However, implementations may be buggy, and one manifestation of bugginess can be memory leakage. The presence of bugs is by no means unique to JavaScript.

Most modern programming languages (including JavaScript) provide automatic memory management. Memory is automatically allocated as needed, and automatically reclaimed and reused in a process called garbage collection. If the collector fails repeatedly to reclaim some range of memory that is not longer in active use, then that memory is said to have leaked, and will not be available to the program. This can result in memory starvation which could cause programs to run very slowly or to fail.

Some leaks associated with JavaScript are due not to JavaScript, but to the environment in which JavaScript programs run. For example, for many years, Internet Explorer was quite bad at collecting garbage when JavaScript objects interacted with browser objects.

Some leaks are due to programmers not understanding how memory management works. It is possible to inadvertently build data structures that will frustrate the garbage collector. These sorts of mishaps can occur in any language.

Happy new year. I cant wait to see what 2013 holds.

Twitter Bootstrap. This looks kickin' rad. I'm debating reworking recent projects to use it.

Are there any good apps on Windows Phones for chatting through Google Talk?
