I was recently asked for any suggestions I have for planting a church in a different community from where you currently live and know. There is a group of 25 plus people who are leaving the comforts of home in California traveling to the state of North Dakota to plant a church. I love that kind of faith. If you don't know, Grace Community Church is my hometown, so I am very familiar with our community, but I planted a church before this one in...

And without faith it is impossible to please God… Hebrews 11:6 We live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you. 2 Chronicles 20:12 But God chose the …

Most of the believers I know have a strong desire to raise their children to be godly; to be passionate followers of Christ. Years ago, before I even had children, God laid on my heart to develop a plan for my fathering. Though at the time I didn’t put this on paper, over the years …

I’ve written previously about the first seven years of marriage. We don’t know why necessarily — I have some theories — but the years between 6 and 8 of marriage are often the most difficult. It seems so many marriages fail in the 7th year. It makes sense then that protecting the marriage during those …

I love church planters. I moved into church revitalization and part of the concern I had for doing so is that I might not have a foot into church planting. That would be tough for me. After two successful plants and having worked with literally hundreds of planters, I think it’s in my blood. (Interestingly, …

I read an interesting story from the life of the Biblical character of David again recently. The story says a great deal about leadership and what is required to successfully lead. Here's what I read: When David was told, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are looting the threshing floors,” he inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?”The LORD answered him, “Go, attack the Philistines and sa...

I received a message from a staff member of another church recently. He is struggling with the current leadership and wondering how long he can continue to be where he doesn't support the vision and direction of the pastor. He wanted my advice on how he should be responding during this season of ministry. Here are 7 actions I encouraged him to do:

Kudos to you for sharing this advice. I especially like that you draw attention to the fact that we worship, work for, and serve Jesus Christ, not a person or a leader.  Being in a situation where leadership is in questionable, one must definitely look to Jesus to be led in order to respect those above you and those you minister to. I have long felt that if you cannot respect those leading above you, those leading below you will not respect you either.  It is definitely a time of stretching and growing.  Thanks for sharing this.
