Terrible food and terrible service. The only time we got attention was when we got up to leave. The couple sitting next to us had already walked out. When we saw the weeds surrounding the restaurant, we started to not go in because we feared the food and customers might get the same neglect as their landscaping, but we checked and they had good reviews. The weeds were more truthful. We ordered lunch special bento boxes, which we thought would be really fast. We waited until we had to get back to work. We couldn't get the waitress's attention. The people at the table next to us got up and walked out. We pushed a button on the table and the waitress came over. She said there were bento boxes stacked up in the kitchen. Everything had been put in them and they had to sit and wait until the cook was finished with the hibachi table so he could cook the tempura. We started to walk out and the owner stopped us and told us she would get it for us. A couple of minutes, she showed up with the boxes. The chicken and beef teriyaki were cold and not good. They didn't bring us tempura dipping sauce, ginger for the sushi, or chop sticks. We didn't have knives for the chicken and beef, which were cold, anyway. The beef was poor quality as well as cold. We didn't eat the teriyaki.

My fiance and I went to Mikato because I'd found a Groupon deal. The service was terrible, the waiters do not acknowledge you or say "you're welcome" if you say "thank you." (something I'm finding to be more of the norm these days at most restaurants here in Louisville) The waiter had to be asked twice for straws, then we had to ask for our chopsticks and dipping bowls. I feel like because we had a Groupon we were not a priority. To top off this ridiculous night, I lifted up the last of my sushi roll to put it in the to go box and there lied a fly writhing in the eel sauce. I will never go to Mikato again.

We go to Mikato frequently. For 2 people, usually spend somewhere between $40-$50 but we eat like royalty. Their sushi is EASILY the best in town, absolutely delicious. My wife has gotten other dishes too, including chicken & shrimp from the grill, shrimp fried rice, pot stickers, etc. I've also gone there for lunch a few times & they have some really good lunch specials. This is our favorite restaurant in the city. The service however is hit or miss. It seems like they have new servers every time we go there, some are really nice & others are relatively rude. The food outweighs the service in our minds & we'd highly recommend it.

Upon arriving at Mikato's, we very nearly turned around and went somewhere else. The outside of the establishment leaves MUCH to be desired, but once inside, all of our fears and apprehensions were erased. The service was spot on, we ate at a VERY reasonable price and had more food than we could eat. The waiter and the chef both made us laugh, and at the end, we were more than happy to leave a substantial tip, and further to recommend it to our friends and family.

After waiting 2 hours we got up and LEFT. They have a teenage son acting as the only waiter, bartender and floor manager. They had ONE Hibachi chef that night and seated every table (8 I think) in the place! How irresponsible and horrible is that?? All we saw was unhappy people with no food at every single table. The kid kept bringing people salad and making up excuses and that was not going to cut it. This place is going to shut down soon and good riddance! They ruined our night!!
