The worst meal ever. What shows up on your plate is a slice of meat on a bed of lettuce...no joke they make it read like a really nice gourmet meal but nothing but lettuce and meat...we never laughed so hard.my advice go to a salad bar its cheaper.

I would be shocked if following things that I ate at The Island Merchant the other night were NOT from a can: the peaches on the brie appetizer, the crab on the crab salad, and the whipped cream on the chocolate cake dessert. All four dishes that my boyfriend and I tried were disappointing and poorly executed. Even the wine was bad. And I have to say, as a native Californian, of the fish tacos: you call THAT a tortilla?? It felt and tasted more like a coaster.

The food was simply bad. Out of one appetizer and two entrees, most of the ingredients might as well have been (and probably were) canned, including the scant amount of crab actually included in the crab entree. The cod the in the fish tacos was actually quite good though. Everything else that came with the fish tacos was pretty dismal, especially the tortillas that tasted like paper. Service was fine, friendly. I wasn't there during any music; apparently they've got that going for them but I wouldn't know.

Walk into the Island Merchant and leave the hustle and bustle of Main Street Hyannis behind as you sink into a warm, comfortable, elegant island oasis. The atmosphere is luxurious and lovely without being pretentious or stuffy. The food is the absolute best in Hyannis ranging from an impossibly yummy homemade macaroni and cheese to the sultry smoked pulled pork served over bread pudding, to the freshest tuna you’ll find anywhere on the Cape. The drinks are festive and delicious (especially the tasty, sweet Mojito), and the staff is fun and spirited. Live music every night adds to the overall experience, and for late night munchies, nothing beats the $2 burgers from 10-2. Overall, it is truly a unique dining/drinking experience on the Cape – the best I’ve experienced.

We went to based on the "review" advertisement in Cape Cod Chefs, and I will never take another recommendations from that site.It was touted by the chef as a bastion of the slow food movement on the cape and this was nothing but a lie. There was nothing locally sourced, fresh or interesting about the food. In fact you would find better value at the local Burger King on RT 28. The worst....avoid at all costs

My wife and I have enjoyed the Island Merchant over the last few years. Great music, drinks and creative appetizers! Never had the full dinner, so I can't comment on that.
